Newbie with a few questions..

My opinion on the manual locking hubs is that I think they are more reliable. No there not bad in the winter, only had one freeze up because a bit of water got in because of a bad seal and froze easy fix only time ive ever heard of that happening. Just remember lock in your hubs BEFORE entering the mud you can still leave it in two wheel drive but have the ability of four wheel if you need it.

As for the compressor if you have a garage, look in the paper for a used bigger compressor then you have an excuse for air tools:D and airing up will be easy then

i bought mine at home depot for $200. alot cheaper than sears, but i am running craftsman tools. its a 26 gal. 1 1/2 horsepower. if you get one for your garage make sure that its no less than 1.5 hp.

thanks, i guess ill have to search around for the lift kit ideas. Anyone like any particular exhuast? Im thinking flowmasters?

well my truck has headers and a single 3 inch exaust out of a flowmaster, it sounds awsome.its loud but not too loud. and i have a 350 with a mild cam

here is a pic of my truck

Nice! Are these catback systems and then you get headers and keep the stock cat or do you replace the whole system?

the whole system. starting with headman headers, then a y-pipe,3 inch cat(off of a 93 suburban),flowmaster, and exit out of the driver side at a 45 degree angle.

if i were you i would take some messurements were you need bends and take them messurements down to a muffler shop, and have them bend you some exhaust tubing.

or you could have them do the whole system

Where can i find a site that sells whole system, all i seem to find for the 86k5 is the 40 flowmaster muffler. Seems to be hard to find..?

what size exhaust tubing do you want? and are you gonna do headers or just stock exhuast mainifolds? and were do you want the exaust to exit?

Nah, im gonna do the headers. The only ones i hear are for the older muscle. Hooker headers, know anything better for the k5? I was thinking headers and then a catback. But if its worth it to put in a new cat then i might as well do that too. So im basically looking for the whole system or the whole system minus the cat i guess? Any ideas?

well i would forgot the cat-back idea. if it was me i would do headers and duals. i would get a set of headman headers(ill find the model number of mine if you want) and have an exhaust shop bend up a 2.5 inch exhaust almost like a streight pipe just exit in the stock location. and then get a set of high flow cats(if needed, where i am im exempt of emissions)and then a set of flowmasters. it aint cheap, headers $350,cats $110,muffler,$120,and i am guessing $100-$150 for exaust tubing,
clamps and other odds and end $50.

grand total:some where around $780

here is where i would exit the exhaust no fumes in the truck at all. and i drive with all of my windows open

Damn. This sounds like a custom job, something i probably cant do myself. Ill have to look into high flow cats because i keep hearing different things here if they're legal or not. I do need to pass emisiions though so. I havnt taken a look at the exhaust system on the truck, but since you said cats, plural im guessing it goes Header -> Cat -> y pipe -> muffler? So, im basically buying a whole new system, though im not sure about the cat, i might need to keep it. But im guessing they dont sell something like a catback thats prebent for the k5? Ill have to have a shop do it? I just wanna do most if not all the work myself to save money.

well i am sure that a shop could bend you up tubing. and you could install it your self.

if you want to do a single exhaust it would go headers,y-pipe,cat,muffler.

Checkout advance auto. or pepboys. I made my exhuast in an afternoon. i welded mine but you can do it with clamps. I put my headers on and got 4 90 degree elbows 2 straight sections bout 24" each and 2 45 degree elbows. I ran it out from the headers under the frame rail and down along the door and out right before the back tires on either side. no fumes in the cab with top off and windows down. I have the magna flow mufflers. cost me bout 225.00 with tax for everything. minus the headers got them free with another motor.

you can put high flow cats on right before the mufflers on either side and still pass emissions
