So I am gathering bits and did some searching... :popcorn:
I have an 82 that was a diesel that is now a carbed 350
Going to a Fast EZ system and prefer the intank pump.
Will a 91 and up tank bolt in place, straps and filler tube?
Figure that old 82 tank has got all kinda who knows what in it anyhow, and no internal baffles for an intank pump...

You have a K5? 1988-91 K5 tanks are identical to the older tanks with one important difference, internal baffles. They help to prevent the internal fuel pump from starving on acceleration.

I am calling it a K5; it is pretty much a mutt.
That's what I needed to know; they look the same in pics and most listing shows same from 82-91 depending on carb or FI.
Found all the lines and adapters and the FI tank.. thanks!!! :thumb:
 
Assuming you already know it, but you need the '87-91 gas sending unit as well.
 
Yep, got that handled. Found all the factory lines and adapters to AN lines for the FAST system.

I actually have a question about this. I did some research a while ago on the FAST system but can't remember. Will a factory TBI fuel pump push enough pressure that the FAST system needs to run? I think TBI unit's only push ~15psi. Or does the FAST system have a in-tank pump that will fit in TBI tank's pump hanger?

:ears: I'd like to know this as well. I was lusting after an atomic setup, but couldn't figure out if my existing pump would work. They are geared toward carb retrofits so it's all about in line pumps on the frame, etc.

You can use the FAST fuel kit which has a Walbro intank, or their inline (which has to be mounted lower than the tank, not so good for offroad), or piece your own bits together.
I am using a Walbro in a Grand National tank in my Monte.
FAST needs a steady 43 psi.
 
So I believe that'd be a no. Tbi uses less than 20 psi.
You can use the tank just upgrade the pump.

Also need to look at the piping between the tank and motor; low pressure connections won't last long.

I've learned over the years to use factory stuff as much as possible; break down in bumfugie Eygpt and you can find a stock replacement much quicker than that polished aftermarket bit.

Does't factory EFI fuel come up the driver's side? I think that was the pain trying to copy it for older rigs. I have a bunch of good steel on the passenger side. I did run high pressure rubber line for the last 3 feet though. I don't totally like it, but not sure how to make it better.

Factory TBI runs up the passenger side just like carbed rigs (not sure if that is what you are asking). When I bought my donor K5, I pulled tank, fuel lines and everything to swap over, they all bolted in the same place as my 86 stuff.

I have heard of guys putting a vortec fuel pump in a TBI tank. That would work well to use a FAST or Atomic set up. They push about 60psi IIRC
 
1st gen FAST uses a retun line; 2nd Gen has option to go either way with an add on relay, but you have to use an in-tank pump for the cooling.

Later model TBI like my truck, fuel lines are on the drivers side; older models are on passenger.

For the Monte, I have all new SS line, adapters for the factory inline filter.
At the front it goes from SS tubing to -6 AN hose to adapters that snap on the factory LT1 fuel rails.

You can hunt around and find connectors to go from one type to another, for just about anything these days.

Interesting. How did the factory get from the TB to the frame? I know there is some braided line at the TB... does it go back to steel on the firewall, then more hose to the frame?

High pressure hose, seems to me it has a crimp connection to the hard line at the frame.. away at work for two more weeks or I would take a look for ya!
 
I simply ran adapters on my sending unit from the O-ring to AN. Then 300psi machine crimped fuel line to the FAST filter, then to the TB unit, regulator, and back to the tank. I gave up on the FAST hose and measured everything I needed, then went to a local hydrolic hose maker and had everything made. Strong, yet easy

Rated to 250 PSI. The main thing I feel is a little cobbled is that the hose runs go up the transmission support with about 20 zip ties holding them there. That's why I was curious how the factory made the run from the frame to the throttle body. Or how you did it? :D

Still need to route the lines on my Monte; I have two rolls of SS tubing and all the fittings.
I usually use some rubber lined Adel clamps to route everything neatly.

I finally found some pics of the K5 to Willys frame swap... I think I'll go ahead and toss the body on the frame with what I have now, and get all the particulars working. Then tear it down and put all the "goodies" in it.
Run around with the ratty old wagon for a while.. "just because"
Also will let me pull everything off the two leftovers and get it gone. Less mess to deal with.

FYI.. that twist tight hose has a note "not recommended for fuel use"

May be fine... I usually use braided or regular parts house FI hose.

Summit says not recommened for fuel use.
Notes: This hose is NHRA approved, however it is not recommended for fuel line use.:eek1:
