I was just told by the GM dealer that none of the K5 external mounts were factory. Anyone else NOT believe that? They at least tried looking it up on the computer, but it wasn't there. My '82 service manual also doesn't show it. Anyone got something tangible for me to work with, like "I bought it brand new with that mount on it"?? Thanks any that can help....

There was some info on this yesterday. Here's what I copyed: Maybe it will help some.
There was a Hickey Blazer available from GM dealers back in the mid-70's.
, the pic of the green k5 shows the optional acc. from the dealer. ie, roof rack, rear tire carrier, winch, push bumber,

The dealer is right rear tire carrier roof rack and rear spoiler are dealer installed items not factory. This is why you see different vaiations of these parts. On the s-10 blazers it is a factory option. Also even if bought brand new it still can be installed by the dealer before anyone bought it. A dealer will do this somtimes to make a vhehicle more saleable.

Ok that makes sense I guess....anyone happen to know who GM used to supply these??

This weekend I was helping a buddy strip a K5 that's been rolled. In the back we found the paperwork for the external tire carrier. I can't recall the name of the company, but I'll probably be back up there this weekend to finish the disassembly. I'll see if there's any useful parts ordering info. I remember that there was an exploded view of the parts. Now is the company still in buisiness to buy parts from?
