noJeeps 2001 duramax Frank - new headlights

So for those of you who have NOT tuned their trucks, how does the transmission act in normal mode? It seems odd to me that in normal mode the torque converter will not lock up at all until 50 mph. Personally I would rather it stay locked up as much as possible like it does in tow mode instead of needlessly heating up expensive transmission fluid. It's a diesel, it's got the ability to grunt back up to speed from 1,000 rpm in overdrive with moderate throttle.
 
I have noticed my transmission not locking up as well and find it equally as strange. My brother has an LBZ with canned diablo tunes and his is much more fun. I intend to get some form of EFI live down the road but I just want better trans tunes, I don’t need any more power! My brother tows heavy with his and has over 200k now and it came with the tuner he’s using when he bought it with under 100k.
 
Also note that you will not get 5th gear until the trans gets to 100 degrees. That drove me nuts with my lb7. Especially if I hopped on the freeway right away.
 
Not sure what's going on, I looked at it more closely this afternoon and there's nothing there. No drips, no wet spots, nothing. System is still full of water.

You should get a pressure tester and look for leaks.
Just the way i’m thinking it? I would say that if it’s a head gasket and leaking into the cylinders it will pressurize the cooling system.
If it’s leaking to the outside of the engine it wouldn’t pressureize but just leak. And more than likely only while it’s warm and running or under load.

Just thinking out loud?
 
head gasket is only gonna leak at temp under pressure.. unless its really blown out... I knew a duramax once that wouldn't leak if you left the radiator cap off. put the cap on and it would start leaking from the head. It was driven that way without a radiator cap for quite along time.
 
There is a coolant block off plate on the ps behind the head. They are famous for leaking there. Mine was leaking just before BB this year. You have to pull the down pipe to get to it.

Let's hope it's that, I really don't want to pull the heads if I don't have to.
