NON Chevy’s in the Wild

That particular Trans Am has the 403 Oldsmobile engine. You can beef them up as good as the pontiac 400.

Are ya sure about that ?
The Olds 403’s are absolutely known for very weak thin windowed main webbing block casting deficiencies that are nowhere near even the lightest cast Pontiac 400 blocks in strength.
The Olds 403’s would need a halo girdle for the mains just to begin to get up to par with an OEM Pontiac 400 block and we haven’t even started on cylinder wall or the rest of the blocks integrity or any oiling concerns yet.
Or is there some Olds 403 wisdom that needs to be expounded on?

Nope, that pretty much covers it.

What about the rocker straddle pivots? Those crack.
only reason I can think gm chose theold V8 for BOP, was it was least expensive to make.

Betteing the Ponchos were the most

A question for the TA guys, I know the "Special Edition" is worth quite a bit more than the non Special Editions, what is different about the SE?

Some folks confuse the “SE” package with the 10th Anniversary ‘79 model T/A’s and on top of that the ones that bring ( for 1979 model year ) the most value today are the rear disc brake WS6/W72 Pontiac 400 4-spd combos - last year for the Pontiac 400 motor as well.
The special silver paint and interior seems to be a favorite as well.

My dad short cabbed his like that way back in the day.

Very sure......................
Over the years there were two different 400 blocks made for pontiac. The 500557 and the 481988. The original early casting numbers for the 400 were the 481988 blocks. Very strong and could handle a ton of horsepower. But as time went on, and people wanting less weight on the blocks.....came along the 500557 blocks. Thinner walls and could handle maybe up to 500 hp. The 403 can also handle being made for up to 500 hp. That's the comparison I was referring to.
The 481988 blocks were brought back for the 78/79 year production. After that the 400s were gone before 1980.
