Norcal_Chris 95 Jeep build (Snowball) TH350 gurus

I saw your buggy thread, then your cage/seats are listed for sale and now a 5.3 swap?

So what's the plan now?

I was debating starting from scratch and nixed that idea. Plan is to take my tub off, and build a tube around my lower framerails. Narrowing the overall width to 50in. Narrowing cowl hood and narrowing grill to 4 slats.
Cage and seats are for sale since I want to redo all the cage work. My cage was built to fit under a hardtop and softtop and doors and I want a little more head room and a little different design. I also want high back seats. So selling it so somebody can slap it in their jeep and be ready to rock.

I was going to compete at calrocs in donner next weekend but this deal came up with the tahoe and I jumped on it. Sold the doubler to fund it so now jeep is down. For now I'm just gonna put the 5.3 in and leave the body alone for now.

Gonna end up running a th350 or th400 and a 205 behind the 5.3

I'm diggin that plan :waytogo: The cage would be a good deal for someone.

Why not run the 4l60 in the Tahoe? Is it burnt up?

If you need a 27 spline 205 let me know, mine is coming out for a 32 spine that I just picked up.

After owning a vehicle with a 4l60e i wouldnt even entertain the idea of having one again. Myself and several other people i know have had them go out for no reason. The last one i had went out at 80k miles. A guy at my work has been through 2 in a matter of a few years. Im not sure why but it just seems to be the way it happens. I know theres a lot of people that have luck with them but ill take damn near anything over a 4l60.

Although im running a 700r4 which is essentially the non electric version of the 4l60, its lasted twice as long going off PO's knowledge.

If i couldnt run a turbo tranny and didnt have room for the other HD trannies id run a 4l65. Theyre harder to find but stronger than the 4l60.

4l65 benefits...

Five-pinion gears for input and reaction gearsets (versus four-pinion gears in the L60)
Heat-treated stator shaft splines
Induction hardened turbine shaft
Heavier-duty low/reverse roller clutch
Additional friction plate added to 3-4 clutch (seven plates versus six in L60) Shot-peened output shaft
Revised valve body calibration.

I beat the **** out of mine and got 208K out of it :dunno:

However I wasn't saying it wasn't stronger than a 700/th350/th400 either.

Yeah like i said some people have great luck with them but i just see them go out for no reason sometimes. Thats why im going with the clunky, crappy shifting, tried and trued sm465! haha

Oh yeah i got that part. I think some of the well built 400s are hard to beat.

Im ready to say goodbye to my 700. Its in need of a rebuild that its not going to get haha.

Going from a doubler to a TH400 with an NP205? You're going to hate that.

Oh I know lol.

I am waiting on an insurance settlement in the next few months that will be funding an atlas. I was thinking this would get me by untill then. Ill just go 20mph over the rocks in the meantime

I would definatly be interested in that np205. will let you know in a week or so for sure.

That was kinda the impression I got from them. I want something strong that will last. If it wasnt for me wanting to go fast I would run an sm465, but with my driving style and heavy foot i think an auto will help the rest of my rig survive. Plus allow my wife to drive it easier

Make sure you get that 205 supported real well...as in it gets its own crossmember.

Where are you going fast at lol? Autos are great, just have to keep them cool!

Sand mountain. Moonrocks. Prarie city. When I go to JV. My friend has a samurai with a tbi 350 sm465 and atlas and I just can't stand the 465.

I'm gonna run a big cooler on it. And I'm going to get a support ring for the t case for sure.

GM sold thousands and thousands of trucks with NP205's just hanging out.

Ah yeah i see. Once you get out in the open like that you gotta haul the mail. Ive never driven a 465 but i cant afford a nv4500 so that makes that decision clear lol.

Yeah thats the way to do it. Its worth it to put a gauge in the pan as well.

True but most of them never got bound up in rocks. I think its a risk to have it hanging down. Ive seen one come off from being hit and one come off from being bound up on more or less flat ground. 205s unsupported in the rocks out here is sort of like putting sand down the carb...doesnt end well lol.
