Norcal_Chris 95 Jeep build (Snowball) TH350 gurus

Looking at a used arb i found local.

I have not checked it out in person yet. Guy bought it recently and ended up going bigger so he never used it.

Comes with compressor, switches, wiring, hoses, etc.

is there anything i need to look for specifically? What do i need to do to get this in my d30? Pull my ring gear, reuse my shims and re-instal?

he wants 600 for it.

You will need some carrier shims to reset the backlash. Unless you are reeeeally lucky. But that's really it. BUT. There is always a but right? Dana 30hp carrier shims go between the bearing and the carrier. So you would need some setup bearings. Which you could make from a set of regular ones. I just take a carbide bit to them so they slide on and off the carrier somewhat easy. adjust your backlash, then press the real bearings on. Its a little tedious but not terribly difficult. Look up "mini" install kit.then get some cheap bearings locally to mod as your dummy bearings

It needs to be for the correct carrier break and the older designs require notching the bearing cap. You'll also need to drill/tap a fitting into the top of the housing along with setting the backlash as previously mentioned.

Hrm. Thanks guys. He said it may need o rings and to be gone through, he has never run it. I hear arb is pretty good on helping you trouvleshoot.

I'm trying to decided on getting this arb and maybe a few other things. thinking its gonna cost me an extra 100 for the other crap so thats 700.

Or.

Get a 8.8, regear it, and put an Aussie locker in it.

Basically I'm getting 1k of fun money from taxes for the jeep.

In that case... leave the front open. Replace that paperweight of a rear axle.

Well may have another idea.

Spartan front 259 shipped.

Buy 8.8 200?
regear guessing 200
Install kits found some for 30?
miscellaneous mounts lines etc 100?

thats 830 with some wriggle room.

It almost seems like a waste to only gear to 4.56 to match the front. I wish the guy would have put 5.13s in. I don't know if I want to regear the front too though.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.... :haha:

But srsly.... Great plan.

Fwiw, West coast diff's would prolly charge you $300 to re-gear it.
They do nice work... Totally worth it, imo. :D

Just ordered a Spartan locker for the front.

Got a line on an 8.8, but may end up waiting and doing some other things first. I can't see an open d35 on 33s breaking anytime soon.

Cut those stupid Dongles off the front of my fenders today. guess no rig is safe from cutting lol..

This will get me motivation to get some tube and make up the fenders.

I have been debating doing that to my 1992 YJ. Your cuts look good. I like the way it looks.

I just cut right above the big hole for the side marker light. Im sure i could have made it look a little better but like i mentioned im gonna bend up a piece of tube for that edge so i wasnt too concerned with precision. I Do think it looks tons better than that wierd overhang thing./

Made some things this week.

I wanted some extra storage in the cute little trunk area. Came up with this to hold 2 ammo cans and a toolbox. Plans for a shelf above this in the works.

Then i picked this Rocket box aka 20mm ammo can and wanted to do a center console. So got to work.

So went snowboarding today. Was a blast. Took the Jeep and it did great going up. was able to keep it above 60 the whole trip.

On the way home we decided to do a little snow wheelin. Turns out Fordyce is just a few exits from the resort on the way home so we went for it.

Was pretty snowy on the road on the way in. took Signal peak trail up about a mile. Was about as far as i was comfortable going in a foot of snow/rocks and by myself. Jeep did outstanding.

Came back down to the staging area and headed towards fordyce but the snow got a little too deep for my liking right before the trailhead so we turned around.

Definitly want to head back up there with another rig once i get my locker in and mess around. Was a great way to end the day.
