Not a Fitech-Now a Sniper 2 and boat anchor

Alright, editing posts with images is weird.

Trinary switch is done.

Opened up the headlight switch and found a little hack job. I cut it all out and cleaned it up. Then I spliced the TAN wire from the AC to the Green to give the AC Controls backlight with the dash lamp circuit.

The remaining Violet wire goes to +ACC to engergize the relay for the system.

Next up was cutting down the glovebox. A template is provided and new a new back clips on.

Then I cut the hoses the right length.

Next up is reinstalling the fans. I started fabbing a strip of 3/4" aluminum angle. It nutserts to the radiator support bracket, and then is drilled into the fan.

Then I dropped it.

Mounted a porch swing. It is a lesson in Petty Revenge.

My wife's parents divorced in the 90s. It was messy. They had built a house together, a masterpiece that was sold in the divorce. There was a swing on the porch like this one. I think it went with her dad, although I've never seen it. A verbal agreement in the divorce was that he got the swing, and he agreed to build her mom a new one.

As they don't get along, he never built it until now. Except instead of giving it to her, he's already passed it down to us on her behalf.

Thanks for the detailed write-up on the VA install. Definitely be referencing this when I start my install :waytogo:

And the 98.5 looks too long. I’m going to try a 98 from another chain and see if it’ll go on.

I have to do some cleanup work, radio, CB, glove box. I need to figure out how the outside vent is supposed to be mounted, mine is crooked and doesn't seem to line up at all. I also need to replace it as the vanes in it are all flooping around.

I did get too excited and forgot to reinstall the defrost vents, so that's one more on the punch list.

Between not cooking my feet and having A/C, this summer has really paid off for this truck.

Punch list:

Glove Box
Outer Driver's Vent
Ashtray Mount for Trans Temp Gauge
Trans Cooler - can I still get a fan on it?
Defrost vents
Radio cleanup
CB cleanup
New Console

I dropped down to a 98” belt. The 98.5 stretched out until the tensioner pushed it into the water pump pulley. I’m amazed at the difference a half inch is in installation difficulty compared to how little clearance is gained. I tried a 97.5 and couldn’t get it on. Either they can’t get belts the right length, or I need to start back on arm day.

Progress tonight, dash cover is on. Defrost vents are in. Mini glovebox is back in.
Tuffy is two months out on consoles, so that’s on hold.

Added some $1 placeholders for turn signal. I didn't drill for Hi Beam yet. I have some fancy stuff with arrows ordered.

Drilled out the lower right for the Trans gauge. I'm building that section as a separate set of wires to unplug when they come out of the dash. Left of this gauge will be my override power for fans. I prewired a few extra connections for +cluster for lighting and ground. I have these switches for the fan power. I also have a zener diode coming so I can hopefully wire the light in the switch to show when fans are on, and not have it light up when the fans coast in the wind. I'm also researching a delay relay for fan on, with timer off, so I can reduce the rpm stun when they both come on by staggering them. Then I can take advantage of a delayed off when I park, so I can get some heat soak out of the engine bay.

I mocked it up and it doesn't fit real well over the vintage air controls, so that will take some decision making.

The red Anderson plug in the top picture lower right is for fuel, turn signals and hi beam. I really just need to run two wires (and install senders) for the water and oil senders to get them ready.

Trans temp was already wired, so I just have to cut the wire to length. and move it to the new spot.

For tachometer, I have the factory wire, but it's wrapped in masking tape under hood, so I can't wait to see what the previous owner left me under there.

Do you have a link for that fan controller?

My Fitech controls the fans with a ground switch. I run a switch on the +12 to the relay that is always on, but allows me to force them off for water.
This is the new switch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083SDPG1S/ I'm going to leave the diode out for now, and just use the light in the switch for on/off for when the circuit to the relay is hot. I decided not to give up the space for the extra light just to show when they are on, for now.

I had previously tried to junkyard the 2 step BMW style switch, but the wires are like 24 gauge and break too easily.
https://www.amazon.com/Four-Seasons-36534-Mounted-Temperature/dp/B000C2Q302/ link in here also has the plug. I'ts also metric so I had to drill and tap a bushing that fit the intake.

Here's a comparable setup. https://www.amazon.com/175-185-Electric-Cooling-Thermostat-Temperature/dp/B07F6W32QT/ Lots of choices out there for a temperature switch.
