In my shop. Doing stuff.
I am in the process of bed lining the car rack on my semi tow rig. Stuff goes off instantly in the sun and wind.

Head to get more supplies. Fire up the Jimmy and it almost won't run. Thought it might be the old fuel I dumped in it. Restarted it a couple of times while it warmed up. Noticed blue smoke out of the exhaust. This engine has been in the truck for 6 years, yet it gets trailered everywhere. So miles are real low. Drive it a little bit and no change in the smoke.

Rev it a couple of times to 2000rpm and the smoke is heavy as it idles down. Something obviously broke while it sat here for a week.

So it decides to die when I don't have a place to work on it. Living in the 5th wheel on the church property. Trying to get ready for traveling the country. Have an engine to put in it. Just sucks having to go back to working in dirt after having it so cushy for so long.

Quick guess, stuck ring. Try an oil change, and gentle running for a little while. It might free up once it warms and cools a few times.

Can't think of anything else right off hand that would do that from sitting up.

I know someone with a shop and he would likely let you use it. And you still have that motor for sale right?

Saw brad going up the 24 this morning. I know he would help if I asked. Good thing I have not sold that extra engine.

Damn man. Sucks. Try some sea foam detergent then change oil. Off you need any help we can slap an engine in there

I am out driving the Jimmy around with a bottle of Seadoam in it. No change of course. Headed back to the lot, I realize that a week ago Tuesday, I had 3 5 gallon containers of fuel. 1 of diesel and 2 of gas. I poured the diesel, checked it first, into the semi. Poured the gas into the Jimmy. Too bad one of those was diesel. So 20 gallons of gas and 5 of diesel. The cylinder walls are well oiled.

I am going to do a sniff test on the cans tomorrow at my brothers. But I am sure that is the issue.

It'd be nice if thats what happened, its a lot easier to dump some fuel or add more "good" 100% gas to "fix" it,than have to swap an engine in the dirt would be!....................................................................................................................................................................................................................I frigged up twice when I had a '69 GTO and a '72 K5,I put about 8 gallons of diesel fuel in both on different occaisions during the late 80's,because the diesel pump wasn't much different looking to me thru my sleep deprived eyes at 5 am when I was commuting to work 65 miles away daily....stupid mistake, and I really felt dumb after doing not only once, but TWICE,at the same station and pump too!..:doah:...both times I got about 5 miles up the road, they started smoking like a tire fire, and spark knocking like crazy--had to bail and head home, and spend all morning draining the now useless gas/diesel mix out...I ended up running out of gas cans, pails, buckets, etc, and in disgust I let about 5 gallons just pour on the dirt!...lost a lot of pay and money on fuel that now wouldn't run anything, only good for a bonfire....

you should see how many times a yr a boater will pull up at our marina fuel pumps and proceed to fill either his water or waste tank, or better yet, a fishing rod holder, leading directly to the bilge.... :eek1: :haha:

Trust me, you made the best of two possible mistakes.
Friend of mine loaned out his Ford 5000 diesel tractor to a friend to plow his field.

Halfway through, it got low on fuel. He handed his teenage son a 5 gallon can and told him to drive to the store and "get some gas."

Kid did as he was told.
When he got back, his father told him to just pour it in.

They got away with just two bent valves, because he heard the noise and shut the tractor off quick enough.
Gasoline in a diesel ain't good.........

When I was kid, many moons ago. I borrowed my old 71 furd PU to my friend, he ran out of gas as kids don't have money.
He stole a gas can from one of the local farmers, turned out to have 10 gallons of diesel fuel in it.

That poor old furd truck smoked for two weeks. created its own fog bank of white smoke.

I made him fill it up with the good hi-grade after that. Of course, back them gasoline was $00.45 a gallon, so 21 gallons of hi-grade still was only less than a $20.00 bill

That poor old truck always burned oil after that. I think it washed the rings out.

My brother just checked the cans I thought were gas. One was deffinately diesel.

Now the question is, do I run it down at 5:1, then fill it? Or keep topping it off to thin it out?

Both of my vehicles needed the fuel filters replaced, and they bucked and skipped foe a week or two, until a few tanks of gas was gone thru them...then they seemed to run better than ever!..no smoking,no bucking or skipping at idle...maybe it cleaned the valves under their heads?.....after a week or so, I changed the oil on both vehicles, and usually it came out clean and looking like fresh oil...not this time,it was black as coal and felt like valve grinding compund!...but after changing the oil, they ran fine, and the oil stayed nice and clean,so I guess it gave the crankcase a good purge!....the oil filters weighed about 5 lbs each, they must have been FULL of crud!.........................................................................................................................................................................................................I watched a newbie at a construction company pull up to a gas pump with a dump truck, that was pulling a trailer,on it was a running small John Deere dozer, that evidently was reluctant to get started, being diesel, and it was about 20 degrees out that day,----I heard the boss on the kids private radio say "be sure that thing stays RUNNING until you get to the job site!--DONT shut it off while you fill it up,tell the guy to buzz off if he says you must shut it off first"...he proceeded to fill it with GASOLINE,and I heard the engine start gaining rpms as I was walking back to my workplace....................................................................................................by the time I reached the door about 300 feet away,it was roaring at 5000+ rpms, and I heard the kid yelling at the station owner..then a loud "BOOM" ,and silence.........................................................:eek:I talked to the owner a few days later when he called looking for some parts for another vehicle,he was NOT happy,he said "that FOOL is FIRED-dont let him charge ANYTHING to my account--the dozer was a total loss as far as the engine,it tossed rods thru the block"...I then had the unpleasant task of telling him the kid just charged 1500 bucks worth of paint and supplies to his account, not 2 hours earlier...he'd been fired 2 days already by then!..:doah:...
