Had the front shaft out of my truck , np205 sm465 combo and my son put it back in for me . I think he got side tracked and did not torque down the 4 bolts at the front flange . Long story short , within 2 weeks the bolts worked themselves out and backing out of a snowbank while plowing in 4hi , the front driveshaft let go under power at the transfer case . Had a bitch of a time shifting into 2 hi to get home and not really sure it actually was in 2wd . Thought the shift rail most to the passenger side looked a little tweaked , so tried to bend it a bit . Was able to get 4hi ,2hi , and neutral after that . Thought I was on the right track , so tried tweaking a little more . Then could only get 2hi and neutral . Took the linkage apart and nothing seems really bent up , tried to shift the rails by hand , no go . Tried prying on them with pry bar , hammering on them to move them in , went to the BFH and got 1 rail to move , outer most rail , other seems to be free moving . Now the shift rails look like I should be in 2hi , but when I put the shifter back on , it tells me I'm probably stuck between neutral and 4 low . Need advice ASAP ! Did I kill something inside or is it bound up between gears ? Tried turning front driveshaft by hand while trying to shift and that was no good either .
