Other 205’s I’ve built I used farm store Case tractor red. It’s a bit bright but this oil based tractor paint seals it up nicely. This one didn’t leak anywhere but I still like the primer red with clear better

1. I like the primer red and clear
2. What the hell is going on with the NV4500 trans mount? The factory crossmember mount with factory trans mount with some steel in between? isn't this two much "play"?
3. Was that "Case" or "Case IH"? looks much more like Case IH red then the older Case red. Case red was more orangish. Confused yet? These type of things matter to this farm kid.... yeah that spray can farm store tractor paint is pretty great stuff!

1. Me too
2. Yes, that is factory GM NV4500 rear cover mated to a round pattern 205. The square stock is actually part of the Advance Adapters kit (NV4500 to 27 spline 205) that I just removed. I reworked the AA square stock so the OEM 1978 xmembers would remain in their original location. There is no movement, vibrations or any oddities with it setup like this even with two trans mounts (OEM style NV4500 trans mounts above the square stock and the OEM style 1978 mounts between the square stock to xmember). I'm sure the next thing is someone is going to say is the 205 is going to fall off because it is bolted to an aluminum OEM GM NV4500 rear cover :shame:
3. Hell I don’t know. I’m no farmboy. It was red paint from the farm store and I remembered it was for Case :haha:

I had the same thought. Looks like IH paint to me.

Interestingly enough, if you grabbed some actual Case paint, you'd wind up with a shade of orange that's pretty close to your orange primer. Might be the best of both worlds for ya. :dunno:

That’s funny about the shade difference. Back in 2009 my buddy and I thought it would be a good idea to build an off-road trailer to drag behind us on our desert trips. Once we got it all built we painted it Ford tractor gray as we figured gray would match both of our trucks regardless who was pulling it (since we both had gray bottoms on our trucks). The Ford gray turned out to be tan. Ah, well…. Still looked cool. I don’t care what the Overlander types say, pulling a trailer off-road is nothing but a hassle where you spend all your trail time messing with the stupid anchor of a trailer. Sold that dumb thing after two trips.

Back to the farm store paint, the brand I like to use is Van Sickle. It’s an oil based paint that lays down nice and holds up very well. You can practically paint a greasy ball bearing with this stuff and it will lay smooth and actually stick. I buy tons of satin and gloss black of this brand from our local farm store, Big R.

Ford Gray trailer….errr, tan. Ah, yeah...you can see what the trailer did to the Ram Charger the day before on Kelly Point

close :waytogo: ;)

it's actually called chevy red/orange by Rustoleum.. and it is now a custom Nason formula I now use as Ryoken red for Mutt in a catalyzed urethane..... just a bit deeper and redder than chevy orange..

I wanna know how you guys get these monstrosities up and installed without ruining half the paint.... Every time ive touched one, its been lots of crowbar action to get them into place :haha:

Transmission jack, 2x4’s and ratchet straps :haha:. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my 205 out over the years to fix leaks, noises, shifting problems, & trans swaps……always something with these old sumbishes. That is the nice thing about the 241 in the Burb…a person can just lift it in by hand
