NV 4500 conversion

I’m at picknpull now there’s a 97 Silverado 1500 it’s not the right trans but can I steal all the pedal assembly or anything else ??? It’s the Getrag trans 5speed

Yeah there’s 76 with the 465 and everything attached ... linkage though obviously... but all there with a 205

I don't know how much you care, but starting in the mid 80s, GM standardized the lengths and output patterns of all the truck transmissions. A '78 SM465 is a bunch shorter than the later standard, so you'll be redoing driveshafts if you do that swap. And the transfer case uses the figure-8 pattern, with a different crossmember offset. But you won't need to mess with that if you find a later truck. Clutch linkage aside (you'll be dealing with that either way), that Getrag is more or less a bolt-in swap. Same length, same crossmember height, same output flange, and the same shaft, if you have a 32-spline tranny in there now. Same for the NV4500, NV3500, 4L80e, 4L60e, etc. The output spline count is the only difference that's likely to cause problems.

If you're doing the doubler right now than this may not matter so much.

A pedal is a pedal. Modifying the bracketry to fit your firewall is the headache. Once you get it mounted up it will be fine (keep your M/C and S/C parameters matched). If you find a set of squarebody pedals you won't need to re-engineer it.

Core price is 500 here for builders. About what they are worth.

$500 seems to be the common asking price for them here WITHOUT the bellhousing on the local classifieds in 100k+ miles condition.

I paid $800 for mine that was confirmed to only have 10k miles on a full rebuild, with bell housing and clutch pack (clutch had same miles as rebuild). But mine was a little insider trading with some friends. So I would say $500 for a somewhat unknown that still has the bell housing is a decent deal

So they are telling me it’s out of a 93 , and that it was in a 4x4 . The identification tag is gone which worry’s me any way to tell at a glance ? Also sounds like 93-94 had issues that they corrected in 95 is it worth ok to run this or hold out for a later trans ?

It is from a 4x4, and it has the 93-94 shift housing (and it looks like an early bell housing, too). I don't see why you'd pass on an early model, unless you specifically want to run the Hurst quick-throw shifter. As said above, the clutch/gear ratio changes didn't phase in until 1996. So I'm not sure what "issues" you're talking about. Shift rail problems were an HM290 issue. :dunno:

For what it's worth, I run the early model. Granny gear is lower on the 93-95 models. Some people like that, some don't care. If you want to use the SM465 bell housing, stick with the 93-95 models. The newer bell housings have a different retainer dimension.

Take a picture of the bell housing and output ends. Just to make sure you're looking at a GM unit instead of a Dodge. Count the splines on input and output shafts.

$500 seems fair if it's the box you want. Are you planning on rebuilding it before installation?
