NV 4500 conversion

I don’t have the doubler, but i went with the ORD twin stick. Unexpectedly amazing to have 2 wheel drive low range. It was as great having that as it was gaining the overdrive gear. The kit was typical of ORD, well built and high quality.

I use 2WD low range just by turning the lockouts.

Yes that works in most cases, but not having to get in/out of the truck to lock/unlock hubs all the time is super nice. Guys with locked front ends would probably enjoy it even more. (mine is an open diff front still)

Ok guys I’m almost done assembling my doubler and I’m gonna start getting all the pieces I need to swap this NV in .
Sonafater a long battle in my own head about what bell housing to use I chose the early bell and to drill and tap my trans . Then I talked my self out it and bought the AA bell .

Now I’m trying to figure out what cutch and flywheel to use . Suggestions on brands ? I’m After quality .

The AA Bell is a good choice. I would also recommend the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. It feels like stock but holds up to abuse way better. I've had mine for years and it's still going strong.

I went with the LUK Heavy Duty version, zero issues so far.

One thing about the LUK kit is they include a throw out bearing that is plastic on the back side. I don’t like it, so I didn’t use that one. I bought an all steel National Brand bearing instead.

I am using a luk brand on my blazer and it has been great. I did use a nice throw out like a McLeod or something.

Yes I wheel a big block and a doubler with it. Stock replacement luk.

I'm using a LUK Heavy Duty 12" clutch set. But I don't remember having any plastic on the throwout bearing. :dunno:

No complaints so far with the clutch. But I did wind up making a custom extra-long dowel rod for the clutch slave cylinder. My throwout bearing offset evidently did not match my pivot arm. So the slave cylinder wasn't centered in its travel range, and it bottomed out before the clutch was fully disengaged. I added 1/2" to the dowel rod and it worked fine. Though the arm was 1/4" closer to hitting the edge of the bell housing opening.

So be sure you get a bearing, pressure plate, and pivot arm that fit the same application. Multiple configurations exist, and it would stink having to pull the pressure plate to correct an offset issue. :doah:

SummitRacing offers like 6 different ones not sure which to get .?
I bought mine from Rock Auto.

I actually have a brand new LUK flywheel sitting on my bench for a one piece rear main seal ‘86 and newer motor that i’ve been trying to get rid of cheap in the classifieds if you are interested.

Just came across this conversion seems awesome! Is anyone running this in their k5 ? What I’d like to do is run this either with a geared down 205 or run the doubler with the 205/203 ? Opinions? Building a crawler .
You mean squarebody’s didn’t come from the factory with NV4500’s? I’ve see the everyday with NV’s
