NV4500 5 speed?

Well that sounds like too much modifying just so I can run a little easier on the interstate lol. But if there is any way to modify my 465 I might be interested.

There is. You bolt a ranger gear splitter in front of the 465 gear box. They have 2 different ratios I think. The lower ratio gives you about .78:1 overdrive while in 4th. Do a google search for Ranger Gear splitter and there website will come up I dont know the cost but I do know somebody on here has one on a K3500 in the for sale forum.

So does that change all the gear ratio's or just 4th? I still need my low gear so I can still pull all my friends out lol.

It adds another shifter for the splitter and you can split any of your gears. It is like a gear venders overdrive but it goes infront of the transmission gear box. It basically turns your 4 speed into and 8 speed.

It's a splitter... i.e. 2spd auxilary transmission... so you end up with 8 speeds. All your original ratios are intact, with the addition of half-gears. The OD version gives you a gear on top. The UD (underdrive) version gives you an extra low gear.

I thought that the GEN I style smallblock built until 99 still had the standard sb/bb transmission bolt pattern. I know the LSX motors have a different bolt pattern. Could you show an example? Not arguing, just unaware of what year they did this.

Yeah, sorry I was talking about the trnny to bellhosusing pattern, not bellhousing to block.

I had a post with some good info on swapping in a 4500 a couple weeks ago, lets see if I can find it.

Well this got a little technical lol. So what years and types of trucks can these transmissions be found in? Would it be possible to put one in my 73 K20? It has a 350,sm465, and Np205. The only reason it interests me much is the higher gear that I would love to have for the interstate.

To use your existing t-case you need to buy and adapter or get yourself a 86+ 205. It has a 32 spline and should bolt up to the back of a NV4500 without modification ... it's even clockable :eek1:

The OD model is 0.73 just like 5th in a NV4500. I forget what # the underdrive one is, but you wouldn't want that anyway.
Since they are sold by AA, they are ridiculously expensive new. I have seen a few pop up on Pirate for sale boards, though.

Not quite. You need to notch the round pattern on the NV4500 for the shift rail. The 85+ 205 has the longer input... its possible the NV4500 output may bottom out before the trans & tcase meet.

is there any way to bolt it up to a converted partime 203 for cheap?
will that keep the same driveshaft lengths?
prolly not but i might as well ask

Ya from what I understand from ORD is that you redrill the front of the 203 case to the NV4500 tailhousing boltpattern, plug the existing holes with threaded plugs and bolt it up. Driveshafts prolly will not work but it doesnt hurt to put them up there to see if they fit.

so I bilt a 82 gmc pu with a 5.9 cummins I put a nv4500 in it my pto is off of a sm465 well It werk with out changing gears or enytheng its a older chelsy it was made before thay started belding the nv4500 so thay dont list a gear for that aplaction

I lost the 5th gear nut on my NV4500 3 days ago, behind my CTD.

It is NOT a catastrophic failure, in fact it doesn't do anything except the loss of use of 5th. The nut backs off, the gear slpis off the splines and just freewheels on the shaft.

My '98 Dodge is in this current state. I'm deciding on which way I want to fix it.............and no the CTD is not stock.

Upgraded nut, with lock tite.

Yeah, but he's got an NV5600 he can swap in place of the 4500. Six speeds are SO MUCH more user friendly.
