Just curious exactly WHO has done the swap, if they have lots of neat pics, etc etc. I looked in the wirteup section and all i get is a link to another link.NOPE! Common, who has it? Lets see it!!!

i am using a hydro throw out style from 96-up in my 79 k30 cab chassie. it is fixed yoke 2x4 so i will use my divorced 205 with it. basic bolt up and need to move the shifter hole back about 5" from what i have read.

What the heck do you want a 4500 for? It's a wheeler, not an over the road traveler. You don't need overdive, so there....:p:

Nobody said you couldn't wheel one, but it seems the main reason guys swap them out over a 465 is for the overdrive for better mileage as a driver. Both have the same gear spread anyway, wheeling either the 465 or 4500 should feel very similar from what I know, meaning I don't think there is much if any gains on the trail with a 4500 over the 465, it's cruising down the highway at 65mph and 2,200RPM's or so that is whats gained, and the main reason why people want them from what I know.

NV4500 is cheaper than a trailer and tow rig...:D

exactly.... i some day plan on a nv4500... yes I want over drive.... I drive down the highway at 75mph and the motor could be purring instead of almost screaming... my truck is what I drive to the trails and drive home..... I expect alot out of my truck.. plus I Know to limit my beatings and expect to drive it home... :wink1:

I've done it twice Once on my K20 and once on my K10 stepper(actually this one is in progress) My k20 has a dodge NV4500 and 205 My k10 has a Dodge NV4500 and 241 Bothe fixed yoke from 93 dodge 3/4 tons (one cummins one 360) I used the bellhousing adapter from Advance Adapters . it's awesome My K20 Had aTbi 454 and 4.10's with 315-70's and I got nearly 15mpg Highway about 11 in town I DD it for 3 years until it got t-boned last summer My stepper Is stripped nearly to bare frame (still need to pull the cab) It will have an LT-1 Tpi In front of the NV4500/241 with 4.88's and 37" MTR's I'm hoping for simular mileage

OD would be very nice seeing how I like to drive 85ish which is like 3200rpms. That does a number on the engine after holding it at that rpm for an hour.

yeah me to speed limit is 75 on the highways down here(and you get passed if ya don't run at least 80) So O/D is greatly helpful It's alot like driving a SM-465 (a bit smoother shifts) first gear feels the same as do the others. what about the nv5600 instead of the nv4500? which of the 2 would be the easier choice.... lets put asside length, cost, availability....

just trying to say.. would the nv5600 bolt up easier? I believe the nv4500 uses a drivers side output for the front shaft?????

Well with the right adapter you can use any t-case you want any side drop you want I made my swap easier by using 93' dodge trans&t-case's with d-side drops as far asthe NV5600 there an intergrated bell housing they make kits but that's a big heavy tranny (like 360 pounds I think?) and the NV4500 is like 165 or so and all NV5600 came in trucks with a D-side drop

think im sold on the 6 speed now!!!!!!!! NV5600 in the future....
I dont care about weight or lenght.. I got a fullsize....
weight is merely a small factor.. you just bring that many less people that make that weight up....:haha:

eventually when I do the crew cab conversion... the bed will be cut but I will still have the rollbar, toolbox with tools, oil, oilfilter, belts, chainsaw, straps, extra alt, waterpump, starter, dshafts, universals, axle shafts... kinda like a self recovery, self repair vehicle...
