If it's just not doable, the crate motor would certainly be the best route in this particular case. Less expensive, less time consuming, less complicated for future repairs, and doable by anyone whereas the l18 swap basically requires it be done by Russell.

That was my question. Based on my (rather few) experiences with CBP, I'd think this would be a fine plan, if Russell still wants to do the 8.1 swap. :dunno:
 
I was just curious. Installing a 350 TBI on the Southern side of the border makes the most sense.

I don't think he is supposed to leave it behind. I'm not sure how they would ever track this, but still. Either way I would be unable to test drive it on public streets.
 
This has taken entirely too long, but I just finally got one of these on the way for you today Lawrence! It should be at Cole's place sometime next week. We are also looking into swapping in a 700r4 to replace the SM465 so the truck is easier for you to drive. You should have your baby back sometime in the early new year :)

Just drop shipped a bunch of goodies from Rockauto to Cole as well. The beast will get new exhaust manifolds with gaskets and hardware, new water pump, intake manifold gaskets, throttle body and distributor gaskets, all new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, flywheel and flywheel bolting. We still need a new A/C bracket which Cole will take a picture of and post up here for us.

Also, @Greg Ducato, we are going to be looking to put in a 700r4 to replace the Muncie SM465. Got any leads? :)
 
How short is the funding so far? I'll happily chip in some.

And, to whomever is ultimately in charge of the project (I must confess that I'm not always sure), I had a while back expressed interest in buying the hydro clutch setup so I can do the opposite swap. Come to think of it, my 700R4 is less-than-happy at the moment. If Greg wants to rebuild it I might donate it as a core. Any interest in conducting a great parts swap? I should have all the accessories required for the conversion.
 
I'm directing the project but @MTChevy is doing the hard work. I've spent a little over $2200USD on the parts so far. I've received $300USD towards the project from a generous member of the brotherhood.

If we can just swap parts around that would be perfect. We will need all the automatic stuff and won't have use for the manual stuff. I think the only thing we'll need to track down is going to be an auto harness and ECM to control the torque converter lockup.

Alright. What all are you planning on needing? Pedals? Column? Tranny? Shifting indicator? 27-spline input shaft? Stock tranny cooler? Something else?

I would have use for pedals, hydraulics, and the 32-spline input shaft. Probably running a late-model NV3500 (not interested in the 4-speed itself). If you wanted the auto column & shifting indicator, I could send those as well (if I got manual versions in return).

Either way, funds incoming. Lemme know when they arrive.
 
See if this post. There is $300 in the PayPal card and I should have $200 by the end of December might have more depends on what all I can sell. I had reached out to Jasper about a discount have not heard back. I'm trying to put in to this as much as I can.

I'd say we will need the pedals, transmission hump (if both are removable), column, shift indicator, shift linkages, trans cooler and the 27 spline input. We'd have no problem sending you the other stuff. Sounds like Greg will take care of the transmission itself.
 
I'll send a quality trans cooler with the trans, if the radiator has a provision for a cooler then run these in sequence. You will need to bend up or source some cooler lines.

This truck and its owner mean a lot to me. I will do whatever I can to invest in him and his dreams.

Ok. Getting those pulled should not be a problem, depending on how soon you need them. What's your time frame? I'm racing to get my house buttoned up before winter hits, so I'd rather wait until snow is on the ground to rip the Suburban apart. Good news (for you) is that it was 30* with frost this morning. So winter isn't too far off! :haha: :rolleyes: :eek1: :doah:
