ok.. help me decide if it's a draw, and if so, maybe help me chase it??

I am so proud of myself right now... :D

I know brakes aren't hard, I've done them before, but this was the first master cylinder I've touched since like.... 2002.

The speed bleeders and a little gravity bleed did the trick!!!

Now. On to the stupid draw.

For now I think I'm just going to disconnect the negative battery table when not in use but someday I'll have to fix it right.

Additionally, I need a new hood because although she is really banged up, the hood is the only cosmetic issue I can't live with.

And yes. Kellers or otherwise is probably an option now.... Until the next catastrophic fail :haha:

I was feeling so proud I thought perhaps I might look into inspection... because.. you know.. it's expired :)

Well... I didn't know emissions was required on a 76. And a beam indicator??? Are you SERIOUS?? I don't even think that's an option on the instrument panel...

Not sure I'll pass.

Tips????

Who told you had to smog it. I know my 77 would not pass. In Texas if vehicle is 24 years or older its smog except. You should have a beam indicator if you have to have it should be just a bulb behind the dash. Any hood from 73-79 will work.

Item 11 on that list means the vehice has to have the emmisions equipment that was on it when it left the factory. On yours theres none so your good. Go out tonite and turn on your headlights and cycle the dimmer switch. See if the two little blue lights on top of your speedometer come on and off.

As directed, I cycled the dimmer switch- FAIL. I guess it's a good thing because something is broken. The headlights work, but if I click that switch they're gone. I have no idea if I'm running brights or regular lights- it's a 76 .. the brights are probably dimmer than my regular jeep lights :haha: Frankly, I don't need that to work but I wonder if it was always broken and I didn't know it or what...

Also, I've been looking for info on this but haven't really been able to find what I need:

A while back I lost my speedo and the (ugly) aftermarket tach. Still get lights to both but neither work. Most other gauges on instrument cluster are fine, except the volt meter, which has never worked per P.O. I'm going to keep digging- the searches I did here give me mostly answers with transmissions in the title and that makes it tough for me, and the manual is NO HELP. It's a manual transmission. If anyone can school me as to how the speedo works and how to get it back.... not that I really need THAT either... I figure if everyone around me is going the same speed then I'm ok...

Also on the books for today is to pull the carpets. I hate them.

Has anyone done drain plugs? It's a huge design flaw IMO for a vehicle that can go topless not to have them....

It'll will be loud and annoying in there with no carpet. The speedo uses a cable to drive it. Is the cable even there? It may have been bad (whined), and a previous owner may have disconnected or even removed it.

Speedo used to work. So did the tach. the tach has 4 wires coming off of it.... Pic attached. Able to trace red white and black but the green one just goes thru the firewall to nothing. Maybe it got unplugged during previous woes??? Where does it go??

P.s. The jeep has had no carpets for years... Yes. It is loud, hot, and annoying..... But it has no rust.

The green wire goes to the side of the HEI that says TACH. That is the signal wire. Speedometer is purely mechanical. Cable may have broken.

Ditch that air cleaner as well and find an OEM one in a junk yard.

Martin

Also if you were curious about where the other wires form your tach are supposed to go, the red wire is 12 volts keyed, the black is ground, and the white taps into your dash lights so that the tach lights will dim with your other lights.

Martin

I was curious, thank you, and now the tach works. Super. Next up... Speedo.

Looks like the original color under here. Not sure how I feel about that :haha:
