It is coming from the hole right above the oil filter. :doah: For a second I thought there was a random hole in the block lol...I dont know what You call that plugs into this can you click this link and tell me what goes here guys? http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=823705

It is the hole directly above the filter as you see In that picture...Also the other two holes in the picture are not "plugged" so if you guys know what goes in there also it would help me out ALOT :thumb: Thanks guys!

The hole directly above the oil filter is just an oil galley and should either be plugged or use for a pressure switch for an oil gauge. The small 1/8" NPT port behind the intake is where the pressure switch would normally go.

Okay are either necessary...Since oil was just pouring out of one can I just plug it? Also to plug it do I just use a bolt? Thanks for the fast response!!!!!

You will need a 1/4" NPT pipe plug for that port since it is tapered pipe thread.

Sorry did not see that, thought you were talking about the other hole not the one right above oil filter. Thanks! Im about to run up to oriellys:waytogo:

Is that hole supposed to be threaded? I put my finger in the hole and its smooth...I looked on oriellys and there npt plugs are metal but i saw plastic ones also which kind do i get?

Metal. Plastic and high temperatures ... is bad.

But, umm, again you missed some words -- it's pipe thread, so yeah, it should be threaded.

Are the pix you linked to on your actual vehicle? If not, pix of your specific motor might help clarify.

this is his father in-law. We tryied to take picture but with motor installed hard to get clear pic. Hole feels smooth for about 1/2" in, cant tell past that point. was wondering how far in the block the threads start. Thought threads would be right there.
Thanks for you help

Perhaps an old sending unit broke off in the hole, that would leave you with a "smooth" hole...I dont recall seeing a freeze plug type of plug in that location but maybe some later small blocks had one, those would be pressed into a smooth hole...you could tap it with a pipe tap and put a NPT plug in it if thats the case..or find the proper size expansion plug to put back in it..

Aren't there 2 holes there? One not threaded that goes no where and the other is the oil port? At least that's what mine has.

Okay to clear up the confusion. There is a hole directly above the oil filter that is smooth, THEN above that there is a another hole that is threaded...I am concerned about the lower hole.

So do you think the upper hole that is the oil port the one leaking? The non, threaded one I stuck a screwdriver and nothing stopped it so I am guessing that the oil could be pouring out of that one. Going to start the engine and see which one is leaking.

Oksy the upper hole that is threaded went nowhere and the one that starts out smooth has no dead end. It was a brand new long block so I have no clue what went there. Anyone bored enough to go out in there garage and get under there truck and take a pic right above the oil filter?

It depends on the block. Not all are drilled/tapped.

I've got junk screwed into mine.

The threaded one only goes in about 3/8 of an inch, then turns. Plug it and run the truck. Dont even need to start it. Pull the coil wire and just crank it. My new long block and ever one I've ever worked with needed a plug there.

Okay to clarify, the hole I labeled #1 I believe is where you all are telling my to put the sensor in...It goes in until the top lip of the sensor is stopped by the block...I am going to opt to go get the 1/4" nrp. Is this the hole that will fit in? I will post a pic I took with my phone showing that the hole is definitely smooth at first
