Old City Park legal issues

I'm bringing this up because it was mentioned in another thread. I read the list of businesses that were in favor of the national monument. Half those addresses were not Moab and the others I don't recognize. Does anyone know for sure any businesses that are anti-4x4? I'd hate to fill my truck up at a gas station that is anit-4x4. Most of use fill up at the Maverick. Or find out City Market, Moab Brewery, Milts, etc were playing both sides. I can't see many businesses in Moab being anti-4x4, unless it's a new one, that sells backpacks.

Moab city parks director just called. Apologized for the trash not being emptied before our event and us for the excellent clean up after. Said the council member who drove through said it looked like a civil bunch of people. My first thought was, "don't push it".

So we are good for next year.

Thanks to everyone who was there for making this work.

Good to hear we behaved ourselves. Also a reminder that they did indeed come to check on us.

I mentioned the "no alcohol" policy to a few people that didn't know and everyone was very respectful of the rules (although disappointed  ).

It’s an old rule. All the parks here have been no alcohol for decades

That's not what I was referring to. I'm talking about council member taking the time to find any reason to remove certain events.

they're really trying hard to find a reason aren't they.....

It's a shame that we're being made the one's that "look like a civil group of people", and the fact that a council member is taking it on themselves to go out and check on these events is even more repulsive. That's what city staff is supposed to do and report to council, hell council shouldn't even be in the loop on who is using the city facilities on a day to day basis. Staff should be reporting to them that they rented X facility, Y number of times and had Z complaints or issues. I'm pretty heavily involved in City politics at this point due to our business and not even Aspen council does this shit.

Hell on Sunday afternoon Stephen, Chris and I passed a Sherriff on Spanish Valley drive outside of town, we were going the speed limit, obeying safe travel laws and he didn't even pull out behind us. I honestly expected to get stopped and at least questioned as to what we were doing. Provided I'm respectful this is the way it should be IMO.

I've thought about writing a letter letting the council know that I still came to Moab, I managed to only have two dinners and 1 lunch inside the City limits due to their feelings towards off road vehicle users. Moab Rim is outside of City limits, The shell station south of Moab rim is too, Next time I'm down there I intend to eat at the Branding iron just to get outside of the City limits again. Otherwise since I have the new super tanker tow rig I filled up before I left home and stopped in DeBeque to get diesel again, I hauled all my buggy gas down. If they don't want me there they don't want my tax money either. In the future I want to figure out how to not spend a damn dime in their granola crunching hippy shithole they want.

This makes me happy I filled up at that station and ate at that restaurant, I did happen to eat at the brewery but that's it.

Interesting that the park isn't in Moab or even close but it appears the Moab Rim Trail is.

Did anyone see the city council drive through? Just curious as there usually isn't much traffic. Jackasses should send a town cop or sheriff down there if it's that big a deal.

We should all buy beater suburus and rent the park for earth day and turn loose all the asshattery we can muster. Could be epic.

This makes me wonder if events like Easter Jeep Safari (or other) bring rowdier groups so they feel the need to keep an eye on all events?

That is my understanding. And they just want tree huggers in town. I did not see one bicycle or hiker on any of the trails I ran this week. 12 trails in 6 days.

Well if you guys are anything like the other groups I’ve gone to Moab with, you don’t have anything to worry about. You all sound like the kind of folks that pick up after others on the trails and public places and keep yourselves in check. So they would have to dig pretty deep to 86 you. Looking forward to next year. Also... I was going to give my thoughts on EJS and the crowd it brings in but I remembered it was almost 10 years since I was there last. I’m sure it’s probably the same story but I don’t have any recent facts. Lol
