Old Iron 2.0

Sweet deal, there's nothing but mud bogs where I'm currently at. There are a few OHV parks but their all a few hours away.

Yeah everything is at least an hour away, but no @$&#ing mud

I forgot to mention that when after I got the truck and made all needed repairs that I drove it around a little bit.

I notice that it was idling pretty high between 1000-1200 RPM's, didn't think much of it cause I was just gonna adjust the idle screw or play with the A/F ratio screws and bring it down to 850ish RPM's at idle.

Well I checked the dipstick (after I had driven it around) and there was NOTHING on it... not a drop of oil. So I pulled the oil pan drain plug and oil filter and the engine was dry.

I went and got some cheap O'Reillys oil and some Lucas Zinc additive and when I put the 1st quart of oil in I heard something dripping on the ground, looked under the truck and my brand new oil is all over the ground... wtf?! So I looked at the engine while I was putting more oil in and as soon as I put oil in it was coming straight out of the bottom of the valve cover... never seen anything like that. Needless to say I put all of the oil in the engine, bought a few extra quarts and drove it to work.

I'm guessing I lost at least 1 quart of oil upon filling it up.

It leaks from both valve covers and the pil pan (hopefully just the gasket and not the RMS).

With the oil in the RPM's settled down and it drove fantastic except for my beautiful trail of blue smoke and the white smoke coming from under the hood from the oil constantly leaking from the valve covers onto the manifolds.

Got a felpro rubber 1 piece oil pan gasket for a 1 piece rms sbc.

Fancy felpro rubber valve cover gaskets.

ARP valve cover studs (longer than usual to accommodate the thicker gasket).

Some valve cover load spreaders and a new PCV valve.

I made an order with RuffStuff Specialties and used their 20% off 4th of July discount.

Got some perches for rhe 14 bolt, some beef ass shock mounts for the 14 bolt and some cool little 5" mirrors that I plan on using on my trail/summer half doors.

At some point in time one of the P.O.'s blacked out all of the lights minus the head lights and I'm pretty sure people can't see my running lights, brake lights or turn signals so I got some new lighting stuff from LMC.

lol, I just ordered the 14 bolt perches and shock mounts from them this weekend too.

Did you get them in the mail yet? Those shock mounts are f**king beastly... I wasn't expecting that when I opened up the packaging.

So I was going to install the 1 piece oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. I pulled the drain plug on the oil pan and figured I would take the valve covers off while the oil was draining.

The valve cover gaskets were of the black rubber kind (no steel inserts) and they were ripped in a few places, there was orange RTV EVERYWHERE and the bolt holes on the valve covers were pulled in from someone over tightening the bolts.

I figured that I would pull the intake manifold (not in the original plan) because there was more orange RTV coming out from under it and it had about 1/2" of crud and dirt hanging out on top of it. I hooked my shop vac up to the water neck so I didn't get coolant all over the place, shop vac is full of s**t now but it's better than cleaning up a gallon of coolant.

The intake gaskets looked to be all steel, orange RTV everywhere again and something kind of weird that I haven't seen before is the gasket didn't have a cut out for the very rear coolant/ water ports. Just looked into it and those kind of gaskets were used on engines with serpentine belt systems?

Found out the intake was spreadbore and there was no adapter used between it and the square bore carb, just an open plenum style gasket.

Gotta get a new intake gasket kit. Gonna clean up all mating surfaces with a wire wheel on my drill then shop vac all the little bits and pieces from the engine.

I'm thinking that I might throw my Weiand Street Warrior intake and Street Demon carb on instead of what I just pulled off.

Yea, it's kind of disappointing... hoping I don't run into too many things like that.
