Old Iron Build ('79 K5 Cheyenne)

Gotta order bushings before I start the shackle flip.

Will order those tomorrow.

Have to buy some more hardware from the fastener store too.

Photo below of the 56's, frame lifted high on jackstands, tires just barely touching the ground. It would have been impressive! I think the 52's will have just about as much in them.

Got the valance and headlight trim bolted back on, gonna once over all the suspension hardware tomorrow and make sure its all torqued down then the bumper will go back on. The passenger side still sits a tad higher that the drivers side.

I'm thinking about rolling it out of the garage and washing it tomorrow.

Well for the most part I have everything I need, its just about getting it all put together. I'm trying to wrap up the suspension so I can move on to the engine and get it fired up. I can't bolt the tons up until I get some 8 lug rollers. Need to get limit straps longer bumpstops and shocks too.

Got the front end wrapped up this morning. I have to source another grill due to it being old and cracked near the screw holes.

No clearance issues with the bumper and B52's.

Had a drop pitman in my toolbox and put that on, I can't tell but it looks like a 4" drop.

Dropped one of my marker covers and it got busted up so I'll have to source some more.

you'll be wanting crossover REAL quick with those 52's on a push pull setup :D

what's the plan, put the flip in the rear and keep the little axles until the rig in running/driving and then jump into the 1 tons?

Going crossover as soon as I get the cash. Was considering the Reid knuckles (more cash). Gonna do hydro assist too.

Pretty much, I want the tons to be 100% before they go under the K5. I also have to get wheels and tires. I was gonna just get rollers but what I really want is some Trail Ready 17" beadlocks, so I'll probably just save for those so I'm not buying extra stuff that I'll habe to resell.

Gonma work on the flip soon, need more bushings.

Probably a H.A.D. rear driveline and a homebuilt "4 spline" square tube deiveline for the front.

1410 yoke on everything. Thinking of putting flanges in place of the yokes on the 205 so I can run double cardan everything.

Going hydraulic on the tranny via a retrofit kit and just plumb it to it's own pedal so I dont have to look for a whole clutch pedal assembly.

Seriously considering a serpentine setup for the engine. I plan on running shorty headers and a whole bunch of stuff is bolted to the stock manifolds. I would have to make a whole bunch of spacers to keep everything in its original place with the headers.

Gonna find some of those windstar fans too.

Small update:

Got some ignition stuff delivered over the past few days.

Summit Distributor
D.U.I. Spark Plug Wires
AC Delco R45TS Spark Plugs
Piston Stop
Timing Tape

The distributor had good reviews on Summit so I got it instead of the D.U.I. one that I wanted.

The spark plugs are the ones recommended by Chilton or Haynes (forgot which one I was using at the time) for a '79 6.6L 400 SBC.

I splurged on the spark plug wires a little. I was going to get the Taylor Spiro Pros but after looking at the reviews and seeing people having problems with the length I decided against. The D.U.I. ones are 10mm and rated for 1400° + they have a 1 year warranty.

The piston stop is nice, it has a hole bored all the way through to let the air pass through.

Got some bushings for the rear suspension so I'll probably do the shackle flip this weekend.

Going to work on the ignition/timing after the shackle flip and 56's are done and try to get this thing fired up.

I'm gonna throw on some new valve covers, valve cover gaskets and Milodon 1 piece oil pan gasket.

I plan on putting some of the Comp Cams oil in there and I was thinking about relocating the oil filter with one of the Hamburger kits.

Gotta find which shorty headers I'm gonna run too.

Rear bumper, trailer hitch and fuel tank removed.

Shackle flip installed. I have 6" shackles on there now with the 56's, may have to go down to 4" shackles depending on shackle angle when I get the axle bolted back up and the weight on the springs.

I forgot to label the hoses and fittings for the tank, so I'll have to figure that out when the time comes.

Got some more stuff today:

Smittybilt 10k winch
Factor 55 Safety Thimble
3/4" Bow Shackles

I decided against the B52's and will be running an A-Bomb bumper for the winch and recovery points. I'll save the B52's for the K10.

A-Bomb should be here soon. Axles will go under soon. Got some nice rollers from a buddy for helping him straighten out his Jeep door. They're off a 2011 or 2013 Dodge 2500. I don't recall the size numbers on the tires but they're the same size as my 33's on my truck.

As soon as the axles go under I'll be working on the engine.

I'm planning on just pulling it and working on it on an engine stand.

I think I'll be removing all of the HVAC stuff while I'm at it.
