ONE BIG JIMMY "Everything In TX Is Bigger!"

Oh that makes complete sense. I was just commenting on how good he had the engine looking before he bolted that monstrosity on there, I wasn't saying not to use it.

Martin
I meant no misunderstanding, I hate engine covers, I had a2006 Impala SS which had this beautiful LS3 intake underneath, took the cover off, never looked back. I just meant that aesthetics are a secondary concern in my brain.

Ok well I took a little time between 6 nights a week football practice and 3 nights a week cheer practice with my kids and
Took the fuel rails apart and pulled the injectors and cleaned them all up and installed new grommets.
I used the grommets that where supplied with the gasket kit and found a little issue.
The lower grommets that seal the injectors in the intake manifold worked great had the lube them a little with engine oil to get them to seat.
The grommets that came with the kit for the injectors that were supposed to seal the fuel rail to injectors did not seat at all.
The o.d. Was to small I guess. They allowed the injectors to spin and dang near fall out of the fuel rail with out the clips installed and that's not the way it is supposed to work.
So, I was able to get what was needed and we shall see if it all seats right on the day of pressure up.

Here are some pics of the rails installed.
I also cleaned and painted the cross over tube and installed the Russell performance push on to AN6 fuel line adapters

Now for the fun part!
I decided that the throttle body looked like hell due to a large power steering fluid leak some time ago and the oxidation of the aluminum to the point where I could not stand to put it back on the clean engine.
So, I decided to tear it all down and clean it up and go out on a limb and paint it with engine paint
This is the outcome

Started messing around with the coils and bracket for the coils and realized that the wiring harness for the coils were in bad shape in the protection department
The wrap on the harnesses were done soaked in oil from the power steering leak and had all the road grime I could stand
This is what I came up with to help that
Just a little clean up and some flex loom to help out

Thanks!
Me too it was a toss up on doing silver or black
But I saw one in orange that was just a little bit different and I said that's the ticket and now that it is coming together
Priceless!

I saw an LS1 at a car show once that had a set of old stamped Chevrolet valve covers cut out to fit over the coils. Actually looked pretty neat.

Martin

I have seen that as well
That's a pretty cool option they also make intake manifolds that mount the throttle body on top like a carb and then they make a adapter to put an old air cleaner on it to date the engine
Holley makes a cool cover as well just a bit pricey in my opinion but they look pretty good

Have not done much this week but I did get this little gem in the mail

Holley ls ac bracket
This is a awesome bracket!
It is made to look like a factory style bracket
I looked at all different types of brackets for the ac compressor and none of them looks factory or held the compressor in a way that I liked.
They make 2 styles one for the r4 compressor and one for a sanden sd7 and 508
I picked the r4 style
Now all I need is the recommended spacer kit from Holley and then I will have it all powder coated
The last pic is what it will look like when it is complete
I will update as I go

Been a little while since I posted been really busy at work and football with the my boys
But have been working here or there on it when I can
I went to put the engine covers on it to see what it going to look like and fit like and found out that there are 2 different styles of valve covers for this motor
I had the style with our the standoffs that are needed to mount the covers
So I went to the junk yard looking for other things an there it sat a 2003 suburban with the 5.3 still in it!
Could not believe it!
They never have engines still in them when the set them out for parting!
So I was able to get the valve covers I needed off of it and some extra items like the can sensor the crank sensor and even a fuel injector or two and all for the extra low price of $20
I will post pics later this week of the differences in the valve covers just in case someone wants to see that

My buddy picked up the starter and alternator from LK Q they gave me a pretty good deal on them the alternator is 130 amp alternator they tested them everything worked and they gave me a six month warranty for $90 for both.
Now just a little bit of cleanup and I'll get them installed

Got these into today starter bolts off of eBay they sold them for $9.95 free freight includes all three bolts

Nice job on the LKQ find:waytogo: I like hearing about those success stories. They are a fantastic company:whistle:

Keep up the good work:bow:

They have seemed to buy up about 40% of the yards here in Dallas area and they are a little pricey compared to other yards I use but the parts have always been excellent

I cleaned up the auxiliary fan and have it ready to go on
Have to go get the bolts from storage
This fan goes on the core support on the passenger side
Chevy had these on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks for addition cooling and as an option. I was able to get it and the complete GM harness from a local yard for cheap.
I am going to have it come on when the ac kicks on or when the engine temp gets a little high

Looking good.
I hope that fan pulls enough air for your ac. Cooling was not the problem i had with a single electric fan. It was it could not move enough air through the condenser so the ac could get cold.
