One Ton hunt advice

I only wanted to upgrade after breaking things, a 10b up front worked well until lots of wheel speed and tree roots got involved. That was with old military 37s and steel wheels, so a very heavy set up.
If you are just running fire roads and only when needing 4wd it should serve you just fine.

well thats good to know. it would be light duty and minimal wheeling. what did you regear to? if at all
I went with 5:13’s. I’ve had the the front’s stuffed and the rig so twisted up the t-case popped out of gear so bad I thought I broke it.

I think we have overwhelmed jteck10 with TMI but this is a good thread to take a fresh look at things. Like the rest of the economy, Dana 60's, especially GM ones, have gone way up in price and are becoming scarcer. You need to reconsider other options. Someone should build a kit to adapt Ram axles into Chevies. There are several companies like Sky, that build kits to adapt Ford axles. BTW, I have an older F250 and Blazer that both have an NP208 transfer case. I am guessing it would not be too hard to change what side drop you wanted for that t-case. There are lots of Dana 50's and a good supply pf cheap 60's in the Ford Superduty category available. Yes, the spring perches are wider and there is the weird metric lug pattern. Consider that for 40's, 5.12 gears are not really low enough IMHO. The days of cheap bolt in one tons for our hobby are passing.

Surprised nobody has mentioned buying a whole truck. It's more work, but it can be more cost effective, as you can sell a truck when you're done (sort of 3/4-ton), or part it out. Just be sure when you're buying a K30 or something that somebody hasn't already done this.

If I would have had the room I would have gone this way. Would have been cheaper no doubt.

This is another way to get it done.

I had a friend that wanted a diesel pickup but didn't want or need the 1 ton axels so we went in together on a government auction and picked up a m1008 for 3k

I got the tons for $1500 he took the rest.
He bought a 3/4 ton rolling chassis for $200 and swapped the 10 bolt and 14 sf under the m1008 and had his diesel pickup for $1700

I have an 89 with 14 bolt rear and 60 front. I am trying to go the other direction and bring it back to stock for a daily driver. We should swap! I am in So Cal. You bring the tools, the labor, and $1500 and you got 'tons!

You want him to give you his axles? Plus $1500 and he does the work? Or you don’t want any axles in return?

you pull up with 10 bolt axles, drive away an hour later with one tons. And give me $1500. Spring pads already moved for the k5. detroit in the rear, disc brake conversion done. 4.11 gears.
Or not. nobody is forcing anybody to do anything.

Hillbilly Wizard in Halifax PA is now making new 60 housings, they have spring perches cast into both sides of the chunk so you can use them in ford or Chevy applications
Those look great! A little more money than the one from East Coast Gear, but Hillbilly points out their features. ECG doesn't say much, except for options.
It would be sweet to have one of the Hillbilly axles!
:saweet:

John is a good guy, I’ve got a lot of hard to find odd ball parts from him over the years…I will say I’ve seen his housings in person and they are top notch stuff

im not completely against this, but the k5 is currently my daily so getting this done would be tricky haha
