BTW, my earlier post about the sizes is because I had all three of those tie rods and I could measure the threads. The one style I didn't have is the more common 7/8" thread hollow tie rod. Go figure.

I just like combining tech into existing threads instead of always starting a new one.
I just picked up one of these long TREs "for 3/4-ton 4.10 gear only": http://www.autozone.com/suspension-steering-tire-and-wheel/tie-rod-end/duralast-tie-rod-end/11338_0_0/. Thing is even bigger than my old one - 1.25" in diameter solid steel. Even came pre painted.
I wonder if the OP ever even solved his problem. It is kind of frustrating when you try to help somebody over the Internet and they don't get back with you if the solution worked. Not that I think it would of worked, but it would have been nice to know it didn't work.
For the record, I think the best way to do cross over is to swap both knuckles, so you don't get into the problem of having the tie rod bring mounted to top of one knuckle and bottom of the other.

My best guess, he solved the problem by using heim joints.
