Operation Cheap Truggy-

How much air pressure are you running Jason? Looks like to much. MTR's on that truck in Moab should be around 12lbs maybe less in the fronts.

Yeah, definitely looked like too much pressure.

Funny, "that truggy" never had trouble on dump-bump before. :D Well, except for that year I broke my front locker on Upper Helldorado the night before. So wheelbase has nothing to do with that. Mine was variable between 110 and 115 over the years, and with the exception of the broken locker (resulting in basically 2WD), never failed to hop right up that little bump with minimal fuss. You'll get it ironed out, just need some time to get it dialed in and the kinks worked out.

Oh, and you might want to look into an EFI conversion. There is a real reason I ran TBI. I could go the point of almost flipping backwards (had to back out of it at full whoop!) and it never missed a beat. Likewise for driving out of a flop, as long as the trans held pressure.

Seems weird seeing the new incarnation on that familiar obstacle from years ago...

i just mess with him about the wheelbase thing, me and my landyacht, i did notice he has some SERIOUS axle wrap though on one obstacle, bacically right before he spit out the driveshaft on the next major obstacle, that seriously needs tending to, i mean the pinion was pointing WAY past level with the driveshaft in an upward fashion.

it didn't look good.

i would definately go with fuel injection of some kind, i know some say they have never had any problems with carbs, but just from seeing everyone out there WITH carbs, getting in those sever upward positions, the carbs seemed to load up and even though they were still running, they were spitting, sputtering, running real rich and whatnot.

would just seem nicer to have one less issue to worry about, with the engine cutting out due to steep angles.

That was Widowmaker on the MetalMasher trail. As far as I know, Dump Bump is closed now? Besides that, on the pictures I took, it looks like he made it, so...

Well, it's too late now for bribing everybody on that run :wink1:

I had 15lbs in them on the first day, dropped them to 10lbs the second, they definatly liked 10lbs better.

Yup, JMS has a pic of me on top, so I did make it up, just not through.
A
nd I have a complete motor with all the tbi stuff sitting in my garage, to replace the 240k motor that is in it. just need to clean up the harness and seal some leaks and stuff it in.

But I am still on 1/2 tons and my weak spot was the square shaft... :doah:

And I now have everything on the way to me to build an Anti Wrap bar, so I can wheel the pee out of it this winter.

Here we go...;)

And it's a pretty tall climb...taller than Dump Bump, I'd say. The inconvenient part is the second ledge, maybe 2 feet high; can't see it from this perspective, but his front tires are up against that ledge in the pic.

Ahh, sorry about that. Looked like the view looking down from Dump Bump, including the flat area and all. :o But it still looked like the tires were too hard.

Anyway, congrats on getting it together and out on the trail. More than I can say for myself in the last year I had the previous incarnation...

Oh, and speaking of TBI, there was a hill out there I was told was called "fuel injection hill". Anyone want to guess why? ;) I only recall one q-jet making it up with only a few coughs, all other carbs I saw try failed, often with near catastrophic results! and that was Marv's "magic carb". Not sure what made that carb special, just the typical tweaks is all he would admit to (hmmm), but it was the closest thing to EFI without going EFI that I ever saw. Still, TBI is so simple, it's about as close to a "no brainer" choice as it gets, if you really want to do some climbing.

But here's another word of advice from someone who got over fixated on "climbing" things. That way lies breakage you never imagined. I used to NEVER break stuff till I got hung up on climbing stuff. Then I broke something serious every time I went out. And even when I didn't get stupid with it, the stresses had built up so that things broke in unexpected way (or so I think). Mix in a few true bone-head moves on my part, and that's a big part of what eventually wore me down.

Good luck and have fun with it, I know I did!

I saw Marv climb that in 02 - impressive! That obsticle is closed now, NO TRAIL painted on it in big white letters.

Crap, is anything I remember still open? Why, I remember when we usedta....

So, Just got the Anti-wrap bar all welded up, Got a new output housing on the 203 to replace the one I broke in Utah, Also put the overloads back in the rear, and will probably put them back in the front when I switch it out for a D44.

Just need to pull the rear axle, get the tubes welded up, get the anti wrap bar brackets welded up, rebuild the driveshaft with 1350 joints, and it'll be ready to rock 'n roll again.

Until the next thing breaks...

Well, Just had a sales man ring the doorbell, and before he tried to sell anything, he said that my buggy is the coolest thing he has every seen. "how do I get one of those"..

Then, do you want to, (me)No thanks, OK, well, that is the coolest thing I have ever seen...

Awhile back Mtnman and I bought a burb, parted it out, kept what we wanted, and sold the rest. Basically broke even, but we got parts...

So, I got the TBI 350 w/ 70k on it.

Just finished putting it in, got the wiring all buttoned up, fired up first try.

Been wheeling the pee out of it, and the Q-jet would cough when pointed at the sky. Problem solved...
