Opinions on a BUILT Sami'...???

This thread has brought up an interesting point in my mind. It being, once you get to the level you are talking with a sami, the amount of mods becomes pretty on par to starting with a blazer, or pickup, or toyota or just a pile of tube.

There are some serious disadvantages to wheeling something like Horton, but then again there are some serious disadvantages to wheeling something like these samurais are.

There just isn't a no compromise rig and while I think a sami would be a better start than a blazer for a rockcrawling type rig. I have driven Horton enough and know what that particular truck will do I at this point love driving the huge orange beasty.

The real key to having an impressive rig is having the ability to go wheelin lots. Get to know your rig, it aint going to be cheap I have broken my fair share of parts that I can't always afford to upgrade but I wheel Horton at least once a month if not more. So I know the rig really really well.

I still stand by my advice that if you don't have a ton of money into whatever you have, or you have enough money to start over a full tube buggy is the way to go. For rockcrawling that is as close as you get to a no compromises rig. Then again no compromises for rocks means a whole lotta compromises for say trail riding.

Just something I thought about while reading this thread. Thats coming from a guy who tells everyone just to start building a buggy but if given the chance would build a sami quick fast and in a hurry and also loves wheeling his oversized (yet somehow smaller) full size truck. :D:D:D

Carry on :waytogo:

I'm keeping the blazer for at least the next few months.
I was just lookin at the Sami's, cuz it would be a breeze to tow.
And, an already built one is relatively cheap.

if I had the dough, and the time, I would have a tube buggy.
But I have to wait, for a little while.

There's a 4 door sami locally on what appears to be toy axles and 39.5" Iroks. I never seem to be able to catch a picture of him though! I've seen him on the freeway a few times.
If I were to do a sami that's what I'd do so I could kick the front seats back and not be cramped. Plus the wheelbase would be a little more useful.

I'm searching for a good four-door, to strech the seats back.

I just want something that's near done.... Or, at least 80% there.
Prolly chop the Blazer up, and keep the good stuff.
That way I can build a buggy at my leisure. :thumb:

I vote for keeping your blazer and chop and replace with tube as you go.

I like sami's and always have but I started with a chevy truck. I have a growing pile of chevy parts so I have plenty and my truck is already built. Plus, like blazinzuk said, I have been wheeling this truck since I bought it when I was 15. I know it pretty well and even though it is pretty chopped up now the changes came gradually so I was able to adapt to them fairly quickly. I think knowing my rig so well is what keeps it from breaking very often, I know what it will and wont do and know when to stop.

Now to get rid of this and get a sami or anything else means starting over and that can be expensive as well as taking the time to learn a new rig.

I guess that's true.

I do know my rig pretty well.
and, I do have all these effin' parts.

I still have body mount bushings, and frame braces in my garage... :haha:

Just keep wheelin yo rig. Dont you have college to come up with lotsa $$$$ for? No need for a buggy just yet.....

or to cut up that nice rust free sheet metal....

It actually wouldn't be a bad idea to keep building the Blazer for you. College takes time and money and trust me no matter how cheap you think you can do a buggy type build the parts you want add up FAST

Besides if you are doing a hardcore rockcrawling type rig, you mine as well do it how you want, that and not having a decent amount of free cash don't work out well

Its the reason I am keeping Horton and going to just keep modifying. Someday I will get to that tube buggy status but I am going to start with a motor, trans, axles already gotten and at least 10k saved up

. College takes time and money

x-infinity

College drained me while I was there and the loans I had to get to finish are killing me now and I cant even find a job that pays more than the hvac work Im doing now. Dont regret going one bit though, even if I never get a job that deals with my degree, Im just happy with my education.

For poor folks I think the best idea is to wheel what you've got and modify it when you can. Eventually my truck may be a full on tube buggy but for now its gonna stay a truggy and Ill keep wheelin it every weekend:waytogo:
