It's still buyer beware IMO. Really no different than buying privately. You gotta do your homework, don't buy on impulse etc etc. Shady, lying sellers are everywhere, not just BJ, or CL etc.

It's a spectacle of an event. I was talking to one of my wheeling buddy's last night who has attended the Scottsdale auction 4 times. He said he's never regretted going to it. It's always fun even if you don't get a bidders pass. 1000 or so cars to check out, some of which you'd be lucky to see at any local car show or on the road. Huge vendor midway selling everything from Learjets to Rolex watches and then there's a Rudy's BBQ vendor and everything in between. Tons of automobilia on display too. The other great thing to watch is the people. Lots of interesting folks to see.

I'd like to go see it at least once. Kinda like the spectacle of SEMA except more drinking and lots of big spenders impressing trophy wives. My Dad has expressed he'd like to check it out too. Neither of us is getting any younger so I'd like to take him out for the Friday/Saturday fun when rich stupidity is at its peak.

The other part is, It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

And I totally agree. These mega auctions have driving the price of cars past the point of what they are worth to me. Sure a 69 big block vette would be fun to own, but not at $75k. Even if I had fu$k you money I'd be hard press to buy any of these.

L88? Six figure car yesterday.

Guys like us to spend time on these forums because we build shit ourselves.
Remember there's alot of car guys out there that don't know how to do what we do.

If you really want a high-end build and you don't have the ability or time do it yourself. Or just don't want to spend your whole life in the shop wrenching.

Paying a shop is going to cost you 150k for a high end build like this c10

It might just be easier to fly to the desert write a check and wait for the big orange truck to show up at your house.

I know some might say, blasphemy! You can't be a car guy without busted knuckles and bloodshed. But I believe you can be a car guy that would rather drive it then build it.

problem is,,, someone who buys a truck like this, is never going to drive it.... so what's the point. :dunno:

driving it will decline the value....and how often have you seen something in as pristine condition as this being driven down the road ?

Look at Jay Leno and his cars.
He drives them, he pays a lot of money for them, he doesn't do wrenching as far as I know but he's a car guy and he knows his stuff.
So yes not the typical car guy or the typical deep pockets buyer but it's a combination that exists

He does wrench on them and knows them inside and out. He has professional mechanics do most of the work, but he is in there getting his hands dirty.
I suspected that, so I did say as far as I know.
I just always heard him say I had them do this or that so I knew he had people do work for him.

I just noticed all the classics for sale on craigslist jumped up in price..... by a lot. Hilarious.

If you guys are familiar with the squarebody Syndicate white pickup, I believe that one just sold this weekend for 150k as well
