Parallel Flow Condenser

Problem with higher vents temps is that means the heat from the freon is not being removed adequately, which also means higher freon temps going back through the compressor, shortening its life.

While driving up there with a cold motor (only about 3-4 mile drive) 85 degrees outside .. my vents got down to 38”. After the truck and condenser were warmed up… I couldn’t get any lower than 55-60…while moving. Once stopped it would warm up to 70 or so.

Another thing to – the K5’s by nature are going to be the hardest to cool down…. The volume of interior space is close to triple a than a regular cab K truck. And it doesn’t have rear AC like the Suburban to help.
My dad drove us from Michigan to California in an '82 sub with dash air only. In the front seat, it was like 60 degrees and they wore sweatshirts. The middle row was decent. The back was like 80+. I have a sort-of running Dometic Penguin sitting around and I was dreaming of mounting it on my hardtop and putting a little Honda 2.5kW generator on the hitch cargo carrier. 13,500BTU overhead FTW! I could just let it run while I go into stores or whatever.

Anyway... What kind of fan(s) is on the radiator/condenser? Maybe there's something easy you can do there...

I"m put the AC in mine now. I bought a AC Delco condenser(part # 15-6960, from theautpartsshop.com)for a 91 model and had to move one of the pad out because it was wide where it mounted.
I also replcaed the blower motor with one for a 94 ext cab (orielly's also listed it for my 86 K5). It does move more air, but it does spin more freely then the old original one that I replace.
I am using a Sanden compressor with my LS swap.
New drier bottle, orfice tube, and lines.
Hope to have it all done soon, just need to get custom line made, so I can finish it up.

The AC Delco condenser blow a hole in it last week right after we charged it.
Got everything working on the AC now. Its blowing 40 degrees going down the road and it was 104 outside this evening. This is the new parallel flow condenser I got (it even came with new pads).

Also add a new 295 Flex a Lite fan setup with temp and AC control that made a big difference in getting it to work that well. The old fan wasn't pulling enough air for my set up to work well

The pressures came out great 40 on the low side and 225 on the high side.

Just a observation. Not trying to start a war.
Napa shows that condenser as a 6 mm piccolo, not parallel flow.

Part Number: MO 1K200083

Attributes: Construction Type : 6 mm Piccolo
Contents : AC Condenser
Core Size : 25-3/4" x 15-9/16" x 1"

I'm pretty sure it's not a 6mm. I installed it Friday and it sure looks like a parallel flow.We asked for a parallel flow and that is the one they brought. It looks like this AC Delco one that I'm sending back tomorrow for a refund.

Hey I believe you. All the items I saw on Napa site said the were 6mm. Your Blazer is absolutely amazing.

Understand, just trying to show what I got. I did get a tube and fine sent to me from another place before calling Napa and getting the one I got.

Not really it is narrower but there where holes in the coar support where I had to move the one set of pads over.

any modifications needed to get the NAPA one to fit ?

Are you still hunting for one?!

Teck - 40 degree vent temp is awesome at 104* Mine might get to 50 at that temp...I wanted to check the pressures since I think I heard a tech at the shop says they charge up to 70% of the R12 capacity, not 80 like some say. When I went to check, the schrader plunger was bent :doah:. I straightened it, but my cheapo conversion gauge no longer reaches the plunger so I can't check it...now I am afraid to mess with it...I don't want an incident like your hole in the ACDelco!

They did mine by pressures, 40 on the low side, 225 on the high side. They went on about the cooling of the fans to keep the head pressure down on the compressor. This is how to make the system work correctly.

I just ordered a condensor for my 98 Chevy truck from Rock Auto, they advertise it as a parallel flow. Cost was $95 plus shipping.

did they list the dimensions? I got mine from e-bay, it looks awful damn small to me....

If you compare it to the tube and fin one, the parallel flow is only a couple of inches narrower where the fins are most of the width difference is in the U's on the tubes.

I found this 15.5 in x 20.5 in

Correction: It is 15.5 x 30.5

Expensive but the site gives me a feeling of quality idk why :D and they sell a mounting kit for another 11 bucks.

Will this fit 83-91 K5's better ?

Looks like hoses will need some adjusting?

Take a look and please advise if you share my opinion.

OH BTW Parallel FLow condensors CANNOT be FLUSHED, because the holes are so small!!!! So make sure your system is really clean before you install.

Not sure, I know mine is ~24'' wide and it is a bit short for the opening. By looking at the pic of the one you posted, you will certainly need to make some lines for it.
