I was pretty new to it then. Let the truck hop too much trying to climb a kind of rock face. One hop too many and BOOM.

Broke lots of stuff the first year or so myself doing the same
Phil, nothing wrong with pulling cable when you know you're outgunned.
Running a SM465, I would run a hand throttle on the shifter. Much easier to crawl and control your speed
The cold hard reality is, by the time BB is here, I'll have my rear spartan locker installed, but (unless a money bird takes a big shit on my head) I'll still have 10 bolts with 3:42 gearing. I'm planning on buying a spare rear axle just in case, but that's about it, I don't want to buy all spare front axle stuff until I figure out really which direction I'm going.
which one...?I'm a mod on a guitar forum, I should try it. lol.
Check out Duelings (Adam) rig. He has a trussed and reinforced 10 bolt/D44, and ktmoutfront has a home brewed 3 link 10 bolt he regularly catches some air time with. IF it were me, I'd reinforce and keep the front 10 bolt and swap in a 14bsf in the rear. The 14bff would be overkill on your rig, not to mention the weight and ground clearance loss. Of course, all of this is just IMHO.
Agreed, but it's s nice option since I don't have 3 feet. Using a 3.42 gear, any help is goodIt is not nearly as necessary with TBI as it is with a carburetor.

Or I could have just backed up and gone around the obstacle.Thing is, not a lot of alternatives though. Unless just break out a winch.
I can vouch for this! It quickly becomes very useful!Agreed, but it's s nice option since I don't have 3 feet. Using a 3.42 gear, any help is good

I have 33,800 posts over there, BTW. About 33,750 of them were from before I bought a Blazer. hahahaha.

IIRC, once-upon-a-time, this truck was destined for a set of 3/4-ton 8-lug axles, they just haven't been located yet. Assuming that's still true, there's no reason he can't keep his current 10-bolt housing and simply change gears & hubs later on. He could throw that rear end under there and regear the front long before BB comes around. Might be more fun than waiting and waiting and waiting.

That's a possibility. Thing is, I was thinking if I go 8 lug, I'd go to a 16 inch rim, which means new tires too. I don't know how much work it would take to grind the drums down.
And I'll need to pick up a Detroit locker for the 14 bolt.

The Detroit is easily done.
Aren't your 15" tires new and shiny?![]()
