Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Is the D44 noticeably better? :dunno:
Ive never been a fan, but on breakage tests they swear they are "similar"

D44s were used in a lot of applications for a long time. The gear and traction device market is significantly more plentiful than the 10b.
That is better

I already pretty much have all the parts to swap my 10 bolt to 8 lug and crossover steering.

Including gears? I was in your shoes not long ago and simply opted for buying an 8-lug axle that came with the right gears. Killed both birds with the same muzzle blast that way.

No, I'll need to swap it to 4.10's to match the ones I got from you. And I need a flat top pass side knuckle.

My point was that if someone walks along with a 4.10 8-lug axle, it wouldn't be a bad idea to simply use what already works instead of converting your axle.

Either way will work. :)

Oh, yeah, if I come across one I might pick it up. Only one I have seen recently was $675 for a 3.73 Dana 44. It was rebuilt, but still. Would have to change the gears either way.

I'm sorta looking at changing the front to 8 lug and regearing as an education opportunity.

That was my point 10 or 20 pages ago also however it doesn't seem like they're available for a decent price in Vegas. Took me a month or more to sell that axle for $250 complete with brakes and lockouts.

I had to laugh, I just looked and that guy STILL has the same Dana 44 for sale. That's going on something like 8 months now.
