Photos of game you've harvested

So what do you do with them? Stuff them with peppers and wrap in bacon?

You eat like six at a time....:D
Half of them I just breast out, then saute the breast halves in olive oil with garlic. Then I throw them in spaghetti as the meatballs. Pretty awesome and super easy.

The other half I gut and pluck whole, and give to my buddy who runs a Japanese restaurant...he makes them into 3 different versions of friggin' awesome.

Found a bunch of quail yesterday, but mostly couldn't get at them in the deep brush (no dog). The weather was nasty and they were holding extremely tight in the thick stuff.

Me and my buddy each managed to get one and we had a great time anyway.

This was a hoot.

I was bird hunting on a buddy's ranch this weekend (quail & late-season dove). I had my boy with me trying to still-hunt some incoming dove near a pond. Unfortunately, though, it was hot and the birds weren't doing squat. We had devolved into me sitting on a boulder in the shade and the boy playing with one of the two ranch dogs and some sticks - basically goofing off and killing a little time outdoors.

The other ranch dog had been ranging about as she normally does, but had been gone for a while. My boy was now climbing on the boulder I was sitting on, pestering me and telling me he was hungry. I was just about to get up and head to the house to get us some food when I see a streak of grey/brown coming off the ridge 40 yards in front of me (that hill in the background of the picture), with the other dog in hot pursuit - they were on an all-out sprint and coming directly at us.

I don't know how long the event actually took, but it seemed like about three seconds: see them, process that it's a coyote, stand up, off safe, the coyote turned about 30 degrees but was going to blow past us, and I let her have it at about 10 yards broadside. She tumbled into a heap DRT.

My son was there and saw the whole thing - he's seen me take birds, but this was the first mammal. He thought it was great and we were both pretty proud of ourselves.

FWIW, a 20-gauge with #7.5 birdshot will in fact take a yote down hard if you remove their throat section with the shot.

Another buckn'a'doe in Kansas...albeit no monsters this year.

The doe was a weird situation...she tried to swim away from me across a farm pond, so I waited until she got near the opposite bank and shot her in the head. Who'da thunk it?

That's one animal that terrifies me. Mooses are too damn mean and huge for me to want to **** with. Like a bear with horns.

Well, considering I moved to a new state this last year (moved to Idaho from Colorado), I still wanted to get out and hunt, but had no clue where I was going. Bought a map and took my oldest son (6 yrs old) out with me for his first time. Wanted it to be a good experience for him so he could catch the fire of it a little bit. Didn't really expect to even shoot anything. If I just saw animals I was gonna be happy. Who would have thought I would have actually shot something, haha. Meat in the freezer is always a good feeling. My boy was so excited...the look on his face was priceless when he first got to hold the horns after I shot him. Was a fun hunt with him.
