Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

Thanks for the input guys. The problem is the fact that it is a Tall Deck. The Sandersons would hit as well. I am confident that my plan will work just fine without moving the motor, which would make the air conditioner hit the hood, the air cleaner hit the top of the cowl induction, the distributor hit the firewall and raise the center of gravity to name a few. Plus it would only make the headers hit the side of the shackle. I need long tube headers due to the cam I put in this motor.

With all this guy's awesome toys and incredible array of manly stuff, I don't think anyone will ever ask to see his man card.

With a small infraction such as putting shorty headers on a 572, the man card would certainly be reattainable. Probably with something as easy as a 4 wheeled burnout in a 572 powered 4WD Suburban. However, there are certain actions that result in permanent man card confiscation, that we will not mention here.

I am just glad that he is continueing the build with the powerful awesomeness that he has started it with, so he can retain his mancard and continue to add to the mancard credentials. Which have been boosted with this awesome build, the boats, the guns, the side x side, the naked women, taking care of his wonderful wife (Hello), the tools, and the animals hanging on the wall that also put meat on the table.

Too funny.....you guys are crazy!:D It is probably going to be the weekend before more pictures are up. I took some time off at Thanksgiving to make some headway. I am remotivated though!

It should be obvious this is the Gentleman who issues the Man Cards.

Great post, thanks for sharing with us all. Between the Burb, the boats, the shop and now the guns I am confused which to drool over :) Either way I'll continue to follow.

I hope your are past your misfortunes now and the road is smoother in the future.

Just read where you said your wife had a 900cc brute force from Mickey at FST. he built the 840cc in my brute force. Motor runs like a raped ape!

Ok, I FINALLY got some work done on my headers. I didn't get any time off at Xmas but I took a couple days for New Years. I had some crap to get caught up around the house and family stuff and I got on the headers tonight. I went over to a buddies and threw some iron heads on a 540 that was on its way to the machine shop. I bolted my headers up the heads and pulled the headers together. I nailed the drivers side. But, I was about a 1/2" off on the passenger side. I was close enough where I could get the header bolted flush to the head and now I can pull off of the frame of the truck to get it where I need it. This is a major timewaster that I have knocked out. I am going to have to pull on the passenger side a little more to get it where I need it. It has worked out so good that I am going to have to do MINIMAL trimming of the frame for clearance. I am planning on getting back after it now that the holidays and family are behind us. If I can get a little time off from work, I can make some major headway. Here are a few pics of the header manipulation.

Happy New Year!!
John

Here is a shot where I am getting the last 1/2" pulled in that I need on the passenger side. Since I got them close enough from the block and heads that I mocked up on the stand, I was able to bolt the flanges on the headers up to 572 heads flush so that I can pull on from the opposite side frame rail of the truck. I will finish up fitment on the headers and trim the frame tomorrow night. I will then put the gaskets in the headers, lock them down and install the cap on the distrubutor and put the plug wires on. Then it is off to the land of wiring from there!:D

It's crazy that so many brands and variations of headers for the 73-91 GM trucks need to be tweaked like that...and it isn't limited to big blocks. I've run a few sets of headers on SBC's in these trucks and have had to tweak every set to clear the shackles and stuff.

Why can't these manufacturers get it right?

I'm looking forward to more progress on your build. Very impressive!

BTW, Happy New Year to you and your family! I hope 2011 brings you less drama and excitement in your life :pimp1:

Thanks Rene, I know what your saying on the headers....but I have to take the blame on this one. They would have fit perfectly if this had not been a tall deck with raised exhaust ports on the heads.

Hope you guys have a great 2011 as well. +1 on the less drama!!:D

I wouldn't be so quick to take the blame, maybe at the frame end, but the shackle end clearance is the bane of our existence when it comes to "K" series header fitment. Very few fit without hitting there.

When the manufacturers' engineering teams do r&d on their headers, they probably get them to fit perfectly on the test truck they're using. There's apparently a lot variations in these old trucks. Whether that variation was present when they first rolled off the assembly line is anyone's guess. I would say it's probably because our frames are all in various degrees of parallelogram shapes by now. I bet some headers that hit the right shackle on my truck would probably clear the right shackle just fine on Rene's truck, but come right up to the middle of his left shackle. I'm talking about the exact same pair of headers. Also I think your motor mounts and spring perches and all that have something to do with it. I would think that every header comes out of the factory exactly like the engineers wanted it to. Maybe. :dunno:

This is going to be one awesome engine, John. Don't keep us waiting too long!
