Flood!!
OK, here is the update. As most of you know Nashville got hit by a 500 year flood. I got freakin pounded. I lost the first floor of my home. We had just finished a TOTAL restoration of our home about 60 days ago. New floors, appliances, stone on the outiside...granite counter tops, custom kitchen cabinets...the works....and we lost it all. I did not have flood insurance because I do not live in a flood plane. State Farm is not covering any of it. I had saved for 5 years to do all of this and borrowed money too. A fema rep was here yesterday and was a total dik. We are waiting to hear next week on if we will get any help on that. We have the lower level gutted and dried out and cleaned up but that is about it. We lost all our furniture too. My shop flooded.....but I have a drain all the way down the middle and I eventually opened up the big door (the elevation is 5' higher than the house is). I didnt have any water damage...but I had 2" of mud over 2300 square feet that I shoveled out myself then pressure washed the entire floor.
So, needless to say, the 572 project hasnt made much progress. I changed the engine bags everyday for a week to try and keep moisture out. (the short block was finished). I finally got the heads back from the machine shop where I decked them. I switched to a .027 Cometic head gasket. My new compression ratio is right at 10:1 after cc'ing my chambers and measuring how far my piston is in the hole and accounting for head gasket quench. I got Manley severe duty stainless steel intake valves and extreme duty Inconel exhaust valves. Comp springs and titanium retainers. I increased the spring pressure on the seat and decreased it over the nose compared to stock as I will never turn this motor over 6,000 rpm. I will post some pics of the heads and hardware shortly as I am getting ready to start lapping valves putting the heads together.
