Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

Ok, I decided to go a different way on my dash. I took the stock dash. Peeled all of the woodgrain off of it. Removed all of the glue and cut the back of it up so that I could put the big gauges in it. I got it all put together and put it in the truck and the gauges were pointing toward the floor. It looked cool until I put it in there. So, I got angle bezels for all the guages. I milled the two center angle bezels (they were billet aluminum) so that they would fit together. I reinstalled all of it and you could see the guages...they were pointing at the driver. I took it all back apart and shot it satin black (including the bezels) and reassembled all of it. Now the gauges point at the driver. The satin turned out WAY shinier than I wanted but I am about sick of screwing with the dash. I just didnt want to give up all of my radio space in case I want to put a bigger head unit in it.

The flash on the cam actually make it look glossier than it really is. I will get some pics when I get it installed in the truck.

Nice work. Your stuff always looks good.

I appreciate it brother. Just lots and lots of time. Its all custom hand fitted stuff and it just eats you up time wise. I have made major headway on the electrical system....fans...coolers...subsystems...etc. Hell, I have made another wiring harnes out of all marine grade components and wiring for everything except the wires that control the lighting and inside wiring for ac and heat.

The dash looks great. What size are the gauges? I have the same tach and spedo, how hard was it to make the electric spedo work. I have thought of doing this with my 91'. The truck also is amazing. :waytogo:

Looks great man!

And Patrick, the Autometer electric speedo is cake to use with your 91, just hook it to the one of the speed sensor wires on the tcase. Then to calibrate it you just hold the trip button down when you start it. Then, when you are ready, push the trip button, drive two miles, and push it again. It's calibrated. Works great because if you change tires or gears you can calibrate it that easy again.

The small gauges are 2 5/8" and the speedo and tach are 5". Thats why I had to put the billet bezels in a lathe and mill the centers down so that they would fit.

Ok cool thanks. I had a some 2 5/8 gauges, but my tach and speedo are
3 5/8 versions. The buildup is amazing.

Well.....the dash made the steering wheel look like chit. So, I changed the stocker out. I hate this project. I should have just done a frame off.:D

I like that steering wheel. Looks way better then the the factory one. As for a frame off I can tell you it's a lot of work. But it's not been all that bad.

I just skimmed through all the pics in this thread....:eek1:  Very nice very very nice

I think thats one of the best looking aftermarket wheel ive seen!

Thanks man! I actually spent alot of time measuring and mocking up diameters and depth to see what would work. I found one other wheel that I liked but it was a $500 wheel. I tried to get something smaller diameter than stock with as much open area as I could so that the you can see all the guages clearly.

I found this Grant wheel and they made a GMC horn button and I got the Billet installation adapter. Dealer cost on all of it was $170.00. It would probably be around $200 for all of it retail. The Grant part #s are billet adapter part #5196-1, GMC horn button part #5656, wheel part #1130

Going back over the last 25 years of buiding lifted trucks of all sizes, a smaller wheel also helps when you are rolling down the interstate 70 to 80 mph. The slack created by agressive tires, suspension movement etc, is alot less magnafied with a smaller wheel. I know it sounds dumb but it is actually easier to drive with a smaller wheel to me.

Alot of it would have been easier. I would have had a clean powerdercoated frame to work with. I think I have probably ingested a couple of pounds of road grime, mud and undercoating. I've taken at least an ounce of that mixture in the eyes too since this project started.

Finished the final wiring my guages in the stock dash and installed my LED's for the turn signals, high beam and brake light.

The dash and wheel look awesome. After looking at this for the last week or so, I now want to do this to my Burb. The gauges look outstanding. Very clean. Keep up Tue good work. Hope all is well with you!

Looking good my brother.

We are hoping to make a trip up that way for a buds retirement at Fort Campbell. Might have to run by and have a beer and some BBQ with you and the wife. My wife says shes ready for a road trip.

Let me get this some bich finished and we will go drive it.

I got my lower gauge pod installed and some Initial wiring done. I got all the sender wires routed in for the tranny temp, gas gauge and volt meter. I also got the tranny ecm mounted and all the wires connected and the TPS sensor connected and tested. All my sending units are wired with all new wire and terminated at the dash to the two main harness connector to the dash. The dash gauge wiring is finished and it is ready to install. All the connections are with marine grade connectors with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing. I know it looks like a mess, but it will all be bound together in runs and covered with black convoluted tubing out and secured with cushion clamps where it will look neat and tidy. Anyway, here are some pics from this weekends work in addition to the new steering wheel.
