Pictures! Just got new rims & tires on the '73

Should I run trim rings on these rims?

  • No. They'd look better nekkid.

Do you have a set of trim rings for them? I have a set if you want to see what they would look like. They are not worthy of being on that K5, but would do just to see.
I actually had a set on my '75 Blazer I had back in '98. Here's a picture. The trim rings in this pic are on 15x6s but it gives a pretty good idea of what I should expect. I think I'm leaning towards nekkid though...

Here's an old ad...these Blazers didn't come with trim rings when the stock 15x8s were ordered...

I got the stock 75 rallys with the trim rings and the other centers, that the lugs go through. But your best sticking with it the way you have it to be "period correct" since that K5 is soooooo mint! Thats the one thing I like about mine, being a clone, I can do anything to it and not feel bad. If it was a mint 75 I don't think I could even lift it. Na I would, maybe, but would feel bad about it.

Craig, can you photoshop my K5 and put Classic II's on it with 35's? It only has 33's now:( . I think it would look good with Classic II's , but also like the Vectors that are on it.

Sure can. I'll hook you up sometime tonight or tomorrow...I'm at work right now...stay tuned :D

Wow!

That's sweet, seeing an unmolested '73 w/ gennie caps & wheels! \

For your viewing enjoyment here are some pics of my Dad's '73 when it was brand new with Desert Dogs and (10") wheels for the winter. For the summer he ran tiny street radials on 8" Jackman white spokes, which you can see on the pic of my '72(that used to be his). Also is a pic of my '72 w/ his 'new' '75 simulating the pic of my '72 & his old '73, when they were both a couple years old, in front of a tavern up north.

So where and how did you find your '73?

I found it online in Middletown, Ohio (near Dayton). It was about 3 hours from where I live, near Canton, Ohio. He had ALL the records since it was new. The truck spent most of it's life in northern Indiana (of all places). It must have been a sheltered life...here's an excerpt from my thread I posted about the Blazer when I first got on CK5 in December:

The guy was asking 10K in August when he put it up for sale. I emailed him to ask about the truck then. But it was way more than I was willing to pay. I watched it sit for sale for 4 months online. 2 weeks ago he lowered his ASKING price to 7K. He also emailed me to let me know that he really needed to sell it and that he would rather see it go cheap than let it sit outside in his driveway all winter under a tarp. I drove 3 hours to look at it on December 9th and offered 5,000 in cash and the truck was mine. I went back and picked it up the next day :cool1:. 67,000 ACTUAL miles on the truck.

Great pics by the way, I love seeing Blazers with the old dog dish caps :D

I voted to run the rings. I think it'll look better with the hub caps. I love the original dog dishes too. :thumb: I was excited when our 90 burb had them. I know, :screwy:

Hell Scott that's not weird. These dog dish caps that are on my Blazer now, I've had them for over 10 years. They are the same exact caps that graced my '75 Blazer (in my earlier post). After I sold that Blazer I mounted the hubcaps on my wall in each corner of my bedroom just so I could look at them every day. My girlfriend LOVED that.

Yeah now that we live together I'm not allowed to "decorate" anymore. I get the garage, the basement, and the attic. Fine with me!

I found the caps on a truck sitting in a field one day back in '97 as I was driving down the road in a nearby town. I stopped at the house and offered the homeowner a trade. I had a set of the '76-'88 dog dish caps I didn't care for. It was all the same to him so I got 'em...

That is a sweet truck. I thought mine was clean when I got it. I am the 3rd owner of mine. Do you know how many owners yours has had? I was tempted to restore mine to original condition. The lift temptation was stronger.

I am technically the third owner but I bought it from the original family. The guy I actually purchased it from is the grandson of the original owner who only had it in his garage for about 3 years. I have ALL records for the Blazer, every oil change, tire rotation, you name it. It seems like if a bird crapped on the hood and was cleaned off I probably have a receipt documenting it. I scanned all of the receipts into my computer and can digitally access them by year.

It's extremely comfortable knowing EXACTLY what was and wasn't done to your rig.

Very nice looking k5, I sapose this is at stock ride height? if so do you have any trouble with the tires rubbing?
