Pictures of my 'braced' homemade shakle-flip

You have nothing positive to say and you have no right giving anyone a hard time.

redbeast24740,

You are clueless:rolleyes:.

just watch it buddy, and follow your own advice.

This site is built around chevy NOT just DIY mod's.

different strokes for different folks, do you know it is tough to safety a modified truck in some areas, in that sense a made and bought product gos a lot further then a booty fabbed one.

some folk also my no be a pro welder so would rather buy something made by one.

and unless your parts have been tested for strength by a company that conducts testing(like kerts stuff) you don't KNOW it is saft, it might look safe it might even be safe, but you don't know.

In short if you don't want people criticizing your work, don't criticize other for there opinion.

oh and up k5er, that work looks ok, but adding some more bracing could never hurt :waytogo:

If he would just gusset his bracket it would be fine.

I'd venture to guess in the end mine will be vastly more capable than anything you can cobble together...

As usual, you don't know sh*t.... Go run and play with daddy's race car...

I don't think anyone has mentioned this point yet, but the use of grade 8 bolts instead of cheapos is important. Not sure what kind anyone is using or what comes with the kits, but I imagine the kits have good bolts with them. Also, amongst all the criticism were some good points. I like the idea of using angle to get under the frame also, not just bolt to the side. That may make it stronger than stock, also relieve the sheer on the bolts.

If stock there were rivits instead of bolts, and they were tight, the shackle couldn't budge. If bolts ever come loose the wiggling will sheer them off quicker.

Remember, one man can't think of everything. There were lots of good ideas presented here by regular guys. Now consider how many engineers with computers and test equipment designed those shackles, they prob scrapped a dozen until it was done right.

yeah.. i can understand you worry about people on here with hacked things.. IE.. flordia mud trucks.. but i built mine, braced it, had a pro welder look at it tell me i had good welds going on, annnnd tested it by wheeling and litterly snapping my rear leafs in half... his looks very similar to mine, so im gonna say yeah.. run its, its safe.
Florida first of all.

Second of all, WTF does that mean? Hack jobs are everywhere. I could show you some friends rigs that I'm sure will trump anything you'll ever do.

We'll see and I'm racing next weekend

Look at Copasetic's 90 K5 build, the DIY4X shackles are on there. You can see, they are perfectly welded, prob heat treated, and may be a high density steel alloy. The only way they could be any stronger was if they were completely boxed. But, some engineer calculated that plate on just one side was all that was needed.

Actually the DIY4X shackles are bolted to the side of the frame and the bottom also for added strength they have braces that go on the inside of the frame. I am sure it took a long time to come up with all of this....

it may have took a long time to come up with all of that, but ORD's flip kit mounts like that, and its been out how long?
