Pictures of my 'braced' homemade shakle-flip

WOOOW! :eek1::eek1::eek1: I go away for the weekend and this is what this thread has turned in to!!??

I feel I tried to defuse the situation by apoligizing for comments that hurts any feelings, but it turned into a piss and moan match anyways, that sucks guys. this is just unnecessary. I feel if your going to post up pics then be open to CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and alike, you open yourself up to just plain criticism period, BUT, there is no need to be a dick about it while telling someone their stuff is crap. I dont feel I did. anyone who thinks I did is a fu*king idiot.

please re-read what I said and show me, or quote what I said, where I was being negitive or hammering on him. I bet you cant, or I will explain why YOU are interpeting it incorrectly.

the whole built not bought thing is stupid, we ALL at some point have bought something for our rigs we COULD have made. I COULD machine my own billet wheels but I dont own my own machime shop. ANYONE that has seen my parts here KNOWS I have built some bad ass parts and could build some bitchen shackle buckets, but some times I just dont want to or Im just too lazy, period, so the f**k what.

I dont for a minuite expect everyone to be a master fabricator, and I sure as hell dont claim that I am one either. there is every leval of skill represented here, COOL! I am ALLWAYS WILLING TO HELP ANYONE with any question they have.

I made a thread once about being compelled to reply to something that you could just not let go without saying your piece. this is how pissing matches get started, feelings are hurt, and threads get locked and guys get banned. sometimes JUST MOVE ON AND DONT MAKE A LITTLE SMOKE INTO A HUGE FIRE!, make sence. If I thought for a second anything I said was a contributor to this crap throwing fest I would have never posted.
Are you referring to me or someone else? Or all the stuff about howdiy?

I couldn't find where anyone had addressed anything you typed, so I'm not sure who you are pissed at.

You saved some moolah:thumb:

Yeah, and increasing your chance of really focking with your's and others safety.:screwy::what::dunno::whistle: I will never understand why people do sh1t like this. I guess I will continue to be amazed everyday of my life.:D:doah:

Seems like you just scorned me for something you are now guilty of. Unless you are a welder by trade, of course.:D

And your half a$$ed ghey H O M O way:confused::screwy::shocked: of scolding me was based on what again? I just love hypofukincrit wussies who "CARE" soooo much! If it makes you sleep any better tonite- my family will roll on a DIY shack/flip with safety being NUMERO UNO - I would however not hesitate to fab something myself if I feel confident enough to do so.
I guess your a welder by trade though ehh?

. . . .. . . . ..... .....
......
......... Can you connect the dots or must you source that also?
"You" felt the need to bring "ME" into your OMFG:eek1: fabing nightmare.
I simply congratulated the man for keeping some greenbacks in his pocket and you took some kind of "holier than thou" exception to it.
You should be more willing to accept a response:ears: being that your sole concern is others safety . Thats cool though, wouldnt want to puncture your skin or anything.
Have a safe evening:D

HOLY CRAP I leave for one day and this things has gone nut's. As someone else said I also have kid's that ride with me the youngest 1 and he loves it. I just want to make sure my vehicle is as safe as " I " can make it. So I dont know what else to say about all the other stuff.:(

so how much fire is going to be in my post for my work truck..

Im doing the same thing:eek1::D only thing im doing different is fully plating it and using a little over kill for my flat stock, I like overkill :pimp:

this thread got nuts.

I see it as a time or money issue.. if you have the money and no time buy it..oh but wait have you guys done n ord or other hanger kit? they are a PITA with a rear tank. on one of my old blazers I dropped it through and never even plated it:crazy: however, the thing never failed and under some of my most infamouse driving, if any thing is plating only made what would have worked stronger. The guy also has the right attiude and idea on how to go about it and get some feedback or input.

if you know you cant do it = get help
if you think you can do it = over build it..BEEF
IF your capable with some fancy tools = make it pretty:D

considering that to drop a 30 year old gas tank on original tank staps, busting rivits and busting your ass to do a bolt on, you have the tools already.. "grinder/torch handtools and some back bone"

I have been a member for a few weeks now and I dont think any of the other thread are like this...... i think everone is starting to get hostal..:eek1::eek1:

WHERE YOU FROM? maybe you brought something with you on your journey to ck5 and we all cought it:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::thinking::eek::shame::yikes:

WOO HOO!!!!! finally we are acting like the guys over at pirate.... I am so proud of you guys...[/sarcasm]

Ok, wtf?

up k5er: I think your flip will work just fine

ace: Why is it always the guy with the undeniable penchant for booty fab always the one with the holier than thou attitude? I think your "flip" will be ok as well. I don't think it is as strong as the DIY flip due mainly to how narrow it is. It just does not distribute the load along a large enough cross section of the frame. Basically it creates a stress riser right at your welds.

Built not Bought is actually one of the reasons that I love my K5. Open up any off road magazine and you will find tons of bolt on parts to build a Jeep. On my K5 there are only 6 things that have been "bought" and two of those had to be welded on...

1) High steer arm for my 60: $50 and I still had to ream the hole for one ton tie rods.

2) ORD frame repair kit: I don't care who you are for $75 you cannot build something that will fit and work as well as that kit to repair the stock frame.

3) DIY shackle flip: $100 second hand but had not been previously installed... Once again yes I could have built something that would work, but these were just too pimp to pass up.

4) Spring perches: yeah... something else that would require way more of my time to build than it took me to weld these on my rear axle.
5) ORD 1 inch body lift: once again cheaper than buying the metal to make them

6) DIY Transfer case clocking ring: $62 well spent... out of everything this is probably the only thing that I really could not build myself.

Is my truck the poster child for fab work? NO! but I would be willing to put it up against whatever you got Ace... come on down south and lets play follow the leader and see who breaks first?

Thanks guys for messing up a good thread. This could have been a great thread for someone wanting to mod a stock bracket or make their own.

All Upk5er wanted was some input on his design and it turns into this.

First of all, I only have one username on ck5. Second, I never said my bracket was better than any of the kits out there. I posted a picture of mine up to show that if you have basic fab skills, you can make you own for pretty cheap and easy. Yes, I think welding is a basic fab skill. If you can’t weld you have no business fabbing anything on a 5k pound rig. Third, I don’t have a problem with anyone on this site. Yes, some of the people that posted on here I wouldn’t want to hang out with or wheel with. I don’t like drama out on the trails and like people around that can wrench on their own rigs.

And for anyone that thinks the bracket I made is weak and won’t work. Just wait, once my rig is up and running it will be out at Clayton Ok getting a beating. If it is weak, it will not last past the first trail.
