My buddy and I are going to put a 02 6.0 out of a GMC Denali in his 91 suburban! Going to pick the motor up for him tomorrow before work. :woot: Pics of the truck and motor asap!

Heres a pic of the truck.

A 6.0L is a cute little engine :pimp:

Hehe…just kidding, a 6.0L should propel that burb around nicely. Should be a fun project and right up your alley. Now, don’t be one of those guys that hacks up the frame for A/C and exhaust manifold clearance :haha:. Those two items are my major pet peeves with LS engine swaps.

I can’t hardly stand to drive the TBI 5.7L in my Burb as it is so slow. I swear the old 5.7L couldn’t pull a greasy string out of a Coke bottle. Funny how 20 years ago the TBI small blocks seemed like strong performers :haha:.

Without my wife knowing, I have been secretly stock piling 8.1L installation goodies in hopes of sneaking one of these 8.1L’s I ‘ve been hording into the slug by the end of the year.

nice, should be a LQ4. :D

Yep!

No worries! It should be at least as clean as my instal. His current TBI 350 is a DOG! The 8.1 would be pretty bad ass! I actually plan on putting one in my burb later down the road thanks to you!

He is such a post whore, that he's doing another member's build?

That is correct. Mostly, im better about taking pics and am the more technology savy. So its his thread, that mostly I will be updating/asking questions on.

Just sat down and made a list of just about everything he needs to get this thing on the road. Its several hundred dollars, but now he can just click add to cart and buy as his wallet allows. I would put the whole list up but lots of the items are ebay items so the links would go invalid in a week or so...

It doesn’t take long to rack up a pricy list just for install pieces. $700 isn’t too bad so far if that is almost your entire shopping list. Many times the install pieces end up costing more than the cost for the actual engine.

What is he doing for a wiring harness and plans for the A/C compressor mounting? I think you know my opinion of harnesses, the best money spent on one of these swaps is a new standalone harness and not a reworked donor OEM harness.

Well, we are going to do a reworked oem harness. I think it will work out fine. We are both not hacks si it will all be done as good as possible. Ac mount will be either a Holley bracket or dirty dingo bracket. I'm sure he will be $2000 total into the swap all said and done. At least.

i'm puttin that EXACT engine into my '80 k5! slowly though.

mine's an 02 lq4 from a denali too. just keep in mind, if it was in a denali, it was originally bolted to a 4l60e, not the 4l80e. your wiring will be set up to control the 4l60e.

This one didn't come with a harness. His truckalready has a 4l80e in it. We are going to get a harness from a truck that was oe with the 6.0 and 4l80e. We will have to change the connector at the transaction to the late model one and also swap the epc solenoid to the 93-03 one. As far as the flex plate goes, we will be getting the flat flex plate and spacer. This swap is going to be a cake walk. For wiring, Scott is going to wire it with my help being figuring out what goes where. He is really good at wiring. So when it's done, this truck will seem as if the LQ4 came stock in this truck. We'll put the OBDII port where the OBDI port is now and hook up the cel just like factory. Its almost too easy. If I wasn't married I would do these swaps on the side. Now that I will have a few under my belt, they are just about a cake walk.

I'm going to try to make this a very informative thread. The swap should go down pretty soon and it should happen pretty quickly as well. COCHEV, a ls swap in your truck would be ridiculously easy with it being a carbed and manual truck! The swap could be done in a weekend if you already had everything.
