Pinsco63's 6.0 swap into a 91 suburban! 8-3 successful test fire!

I'm going to try to make this a very informative thread. The swap should go down pretty soon and it should happen pretty quickly as well. COCHEV, a ls swap in your truck would be ridiculously easy with it being a carbed and manual truck! The swap could be done in a weekend if you already had everything.

Good things to know. I'll be watching this thread...

The more i think about it, if you and a friend( a knowledgeable friend) were working on it together, And you had everything you could think of to need ahead of time, i dont doubt for a minute that you could start the swap in the morning, and test drive it that night. In a truck like yours. Where really, all your doing, is an engine swap, and hooking up power to a few wires...

We'll have to discuss this more off of this thread so as not to detract from your buddy's build. I need more learning as far as programing / tuning goes. I'm a little ways off from a motor swap baring any unforseen issues

It's all fairly intimidating until you do a mind numbing amount of research. What truly ends the intimidation is actually being involved in a swap. For me, it was helping a buddy of mine put a 6.0 in his jeep. After we got that thing running, I couldn't believe how easy these motors are to work with and turned my fever into a full blown fire.

Scott and I went and picked up a harness and cable operated throttle body today.

The harness plugged into the motor just for fun.

Scott very happy with today's purchases.

Harness is from a dude on cl sellinga bunch of ls parts. Its stock and needs reworked to be standalone. His beard is pretty epic! I forgot to mmention that he has some f body manifolds and a truck power steering pump/bracket on the way. After he gets paid again next week the ordering frenzy will begin. We think the swap will start the weekend after the 4th of July.

Scott exercised his credit card a little this weekend. Ordered so far is the f body manifolds, power steering pump and bracket, lower rad hose, cooling fan, motor mounts, flex plate, spacer, bolts, and fuel pump. Planning on starting the swap in July!

That last pic is the one that keeps me away from this swap...Lol! I'm scerd a them wares

Its a little nerve wracking at first. If you wanted the pay the couple hundred bucks to have someone else rework the harness, it would makeit all plug and plan and would take all the scary out.

Speaking of the wiring, Here is the info we are using as a guide as well as some hlep from various other web sites. Its all about research!

How to build a stand alone harness,

Pin outs with a the removable components highlighted,

Pinouts for the power supply plugs specific to the 04 express van, (there are also normal harness power supply plug pinouts in othersections of thise site)

A very good additional source of info is this three part series on youtube about how to build a stand alone harness.

Cool view. I'd like to see how they wire it in the truck...

I assume you have to retune the puter after removing all those wires

Yep. There is a guy on ebay doing a really cool deal. He sells you a tuned ECM for $120. So rather than you having to source one and then ship it out, its a one stop shop deal. The wiring into the truck is kinda the easy part. Depending on what year your truck is, how you wan the instal to turn out, and how much research you have done ahead of time! An instal into your truck, if you already had a reworked harness, would take all of 30 minutes. A LS swap into YOUR truck, is literally as easy as a motor swap. Except you have to add a fuel pump.
