My transfercase is broke. I am looking to buy a new "used" one on Craigslist,

I Currently Have an Np205. Mated to my TH350 tranny.

I found a Np203 Alltime 4wd. but it was off of a 700r4.

I was wondering if it would bolt right up to my Tranny?

In short, yes.

The 350 and 700 share the same bolt pattern and spline count, so those parts will work out.

A 203 never came on a 700 so it should be swapped in or it's not really a 203. Iirc, to fit the 700 the 203 would have to be using a 350 adapter plus a spacer. The spacer will not be needed when going on the 350.

You will have to do some work to the driveshafts to make them fit (ie; shorten/lengthen) and the shfters are different so be sure to get that as well.

ive got alot of those parts, i would try and rebuild the case. a 205 is so simple to work on. try and rehab it before you go to a 203.

I'm not good with Transmissions. Transfercases. this is my first and only 4x4

Where the yoke is on the Rear Output shaft. the bottom of the housing is gone. there looks like some orange plastic thing in there, along with the bearing. the Truck still moves. I can lock the front hubs. and Move it. but yes I know its not good for the TC. No fluid for one. I just did it to make sure the Tranny was fine. and the rear yoke still spins when Its moving

Idk What Happened. but thats my assumption That the rear Output bearing seized up. I've been having a Vibration with my truck.

X2

Unless you broke the main housing, really hard to do, you would probably be better off fixing the 205.
Advantages are: One of, if not the, strongest transfer case out there in its class, and no conversions problems.

Going to try to insert an image. Never tried this before.

I think it worked.
If you broke the cone part, its replaceable. Most likely someone here has one they will sell you cheap.

And complete rebuild kits are cheap too.

I suppose I should have posted the rest of it.

Okay so yes I broke the cone housing I suppose it was the driveshaft that stopped spinning to make that Break

my Driveshaft broke the hardware. bolts braces etc. from yoke @ the rear end.

so I may be able to just replace that cone, and the Bearing.

And anyone reading this have an extra housing for the Np205 :)

I would find a used 205 and just put that in.

Going to a 203 means changing front and rear driveshaft lengths which is a lot more money and hassle than just finding another 205.

Bearing failures are rare unless the case has been run without oil.

i've searched in 3 different counties on CL for a used 205.

I've came across a few that are the 8bolt "racetrack"

or some that came out of a sm465 or whatever the Manual trans is
What info Do I need will any 205 just bolt right up? personally I didnt think it would

the 10 spline sm465 version all you need to do is swap input gears from 10, to your current 27. can be done in an hour easy. basically remove and replace type deal.

you would want the "racetrack" figure 8 housing with a 27 spline input. very common here. used alot by older GM trucks and ALL 1980 half ton trucks had the 205.

sounds fishy, get some pics. maybe the seller is just crazy and name dropping to increase the rarity! like the ever elusive 12 bolt front.

I'd fix or stay with a NP205--it would be a downgrade to swap in a NP203 full time case with a chain drive instead of keeping the gear drive NP205,plus you'd have to modify driveshafts (maybe--I put a 1972 NP205 in place of a NP203 in my 77 GMC and the rear shaft fit fine, the front had to be 5" shorter )..

Too bad your 3000 miles away,I have the NP205 I put in my 77 GMC ,saved it and the TH350 adapter, and shifter when I scrapped the truck..

The "Napco" transfer cases are made by an aftermaket company back in the 50's,when GM did not make 4wd trucks, instead the dealer would order the Napco conversion kit, remove the solid I beam front axle and bolt in the Napco front axle and transfer case...I've seen only a few,if I remember correctly they were a divorced transfer case similar to the Rockwell T-221 or T-223 used in 60's GM 4x4 factory built trucks, and isn't much like a NP205 at all...

Your profile shows that you have an 80 Jimmy, is that correct? If you have the factory t-case for that year it should be the "racetrack" pattern. Racetrack 8 bolt just refers to the bolt pattern on the front of the t-case where it bolts to the adapter. IIRC GM didn't chance to the round pattern until '86. Just make sure the one you get has the 27 spline input shaft for the TH350 trans.
One other thing... If it is the '80 t-case you will probably have a slip yolk for the rear output. You may want to change to the fixed yolk if you can get one. You'll have to get a different driveshaft, with the slip in it, but it's worth it in the long run.

I have a Fixed yoke Driveshaft, But the Shaft is from an Np208. which was bolted to the 700R

The thing is, I have 200$ to my name. And this is my DD. which I need to get on the road Asap

edit: Also I just found an Np 205 From a Ford? It's a Married TC I would be able to just swap my shafts into this If the Splines on the Case Aren't 27?
