One thing I really love about our trucks is the tail lights. I'd say that the four headlight front end and the tail lights are two things that REALLY stand out in my mind as cool things about our trucks.

That said, I've destroyed a bunch of tail lights recently. I know it's not an uncommon thing either as it seems that everyone sooner or later peels them off their truck. My driver's side won't even hold a tail light correctly anymore. They stick out a little bit, which is going to only make it easier to peel them off.

That said, I've got two choices, I can make some kind of tail light protector, which I think looks really poserish with all the SUVs rolling around with them, or I have to relocate my tail lights.

thats what have done leds in homemade bumper cause a tree took out the stock ones

how about filling the stock lights, frenching in some caddy lights in the tailgate, then while your at it french the licenseplate in there too at an angle like the lowrider guys.
just kiddin'... leds in the bumper.

That's what I did with my old blazer...it's prob still in victory wrecking yard dude. haha.

The nice thing about those oval trailer lights is they're $3 each and they're mounted on a grommet so there's some flex. LED's are too expensive, and blind whoever's following you on the trail on those night runs.

even if it was regular trailer oval or round lights and not Leds, that'd be fine.

well tim, since you are an ass-hat most the time i dont feel i should even let ya know my idea. but since others will read this then i will post my idea.

fill in the tail lights with the panels ya can get almost anywhere or your own. then run lights ni your bumper. but dotn stop there. make lights sunken into the side of your bumper as well. kind of like the factory lights, visible from the sides a bit as well. not needed, but one step further than most go.

I'm kinda leaning towards both. I wouldn't have to fill the body, I could still have the lights and they'd be closer to a level where most cars could see them, and if I peeled off a tail light, they'd still work. It'd be silly to have both types, but it could be worse.

I planned to do both on my K5 for a while, mainly cause I had already done all my body work and painted it and didn't feel like repainting the taillight area from shaving in the new metal. I think the taillights are part of the look of the truck.

Put LEDs in the stock location but sunken in a little bit, less likely to be torn off.

Well, I think you should factor in how picky the cops are in your area. If you had both, and lost a standard light, would they still pull you over for it? It'd happen in a heartbeat around here...

Have you seen pictures of Tim's truck? If a cops gonna be a prick he will pull Tim over just to mess with him I'd say.

I have never been pulled over in my truck for anything other than having a headlight out since it has been lifted.

I got one speeding ticket for 45 in a 30 when it was still stock and on 31s.

Doesn't look to me that you touched any sheetmetal either, so you probably didn't need that bumper anyway. Sweet idea, though.
