Possible new boat Edit: bought one Wellcraft 230 open bow

I should have said “do I need to send my injectors off for service?”.
The boat runs great.
Only issue I’ve had was it randomly and suddenly slowing to an idle when running on plane.
The code showed low drive lube but the reservoir was full. I think it was a stuck float switch.

yup, they get sludge in the bottom.. it's a common issue in spring commissioning ... the run issue sounds like it was fuel pressure related... do you have a spin-on between the tank and module? them freakin merc module filters are pricey...

I’m not sure about the filter. I’ll have to look.
I’ve been paying a local shop to service it.

What model boats Tucker? Out of curiosity.

Mine does have a spin-on type

most boat manny's will have one in there. ESPECIALLY if it's a module setup.. with the cough$75cough filters in em...

he could always add one easy enough.. they're cheap...

I have a 2011 Sea Ray SLX 270 I bought for a bargain in August 2020. It only had 28 hours on it, had been in dry storage since new at the same dealership where it was bought new and had never had ethanol in it. It has 165 hours on it now. I like to ride and I live on the lake now so it's just run down in the afternoon, jump on the boat and go to dinner or just ride out in the large body of water I live on and watch the sunset.
My brother's boat is a 2015 SLX 250 that he bought in 2019. He doesn't spend as much time and energy with his as I do which is why he has had more trouble than me.

Bumping this for some help with a hard hot start issue, now turned just plain hard start issue. It starts, then stumbles and dies. Acts flooded and the solution to get it running is 3/4 throttle and pull back to fast idle. If you pull it back too quick it will stumble and die out again.

Read plugs about 15hrs ago(last season) all looked good. Fresh plugs at that time, new cap/rotor on past 20hrs. Still need to change the fuel filter for this season, but it’s got maybe 25hrs on it.

Reading everything from fuel pressure regulator to IAC motor.

It does have an aftermarket k&n that I oiled about 15hrs ago, maybe the oil messed up a sensor?

The hot start issue has been there since we’ve owned it (beginning of last season). The fuel line to the rail is already inside of an insulated sheath. I run only rec90 fuel, and have tried leaving the blower on when parked just switched to 1 battery, doesn’t seem to care.

Any ideas? @ryoken

check your IAC readings if you can, and rail pressure... your pressure will go thru the roof when the reg gets fugged up and it'll run like that... 90, 100+ lbs...

@ryoken, Made it out this morning too check, right around 40psi of fuel pressure on initial key on, it drops a few lbs when the pump cycles off, but regulator seems to be good?

I misread your “check IAC readings” as Check the IAC. So I pulled off the throttlebody and the IAC and cycled the key. Thought I saw it move the first time, then the 2nd time the end of popped off , it screwed back in, but assuming that is a method of adjustment? I don’t have a scan tool get readings but could check the pins of the IAC connector. Assuming the valve itself needs replaced now, and it may have been working properly?

Found it may be acdelco pn#19351706

No buildup in the IAC passageway in the throttlebody, light film of oil/fuel? Inside of the intake.C417CC21-B6E2-4DA2-B90B-709E2A933942.jpeg

yeah, sorry, i was referring to diag #'s from a laptop, etc...... IAC's can be finnicky.. there is no cleaning or adjusting them really... it's just the values it is operating at.. if the boat stalls, it's often the culprit.. that's it's job for the most part..

and yeah, that pressure is right on...

light oil film from blowby is pretty normal, but none is better... personally not a fan of an oiled filter in an mpfi system... IAC's and maps do not like oil... it's why you don't fog them thru the intake...

btw, is this a fuel module boat, or a cool fuel package down by the pan?

10-4, I’ll get a new IAC.

Ref the oiled filter I’m not a fan either, need to find a factory one. This was installed by the previous owner.

It’s a cool fuel, module by the pan, zip tied cover and all :haha:

ok, cool.. i thought it was, just checking... i think there where some carrry overs with that mill that had modules.. which have had many documented issues.. the cool fuel setups where very efficient, albeit not a prime location... ;)

let me know how a fresh IAC does...

Update: got it out today to take friends kids skiing and tubing. So lots of key cycles & going/stopping. Problem persists:confused:, actually had it stall it once coming off plane going to get a down skier. Going to pull the plugs and see if any differences.

I didn’t run it that hard yesterday, but had it hitting 5000rpm’s last weekend chasing a friend in his 496 powered boat. I noticed the transom had some soot on it when we wiped it down, probably due to the repeated hard starts?

It feels strong taking off and doesn’t miss like there’s any ignition related issues.

I’ll pull the plugs tonight and see if that reveals anything.

sorry, i forget, where injectors serviced at some point? plug readings should tell a bunch.. especially if they are relatively fresh...

Well, I found the number 6 plug wire isn’t great looking, could be arcing against the manifold? Plugs look ok to me, maybe a touch rich:dunno:

do the dark trick, or shock therapy... ;) it's relatively common...

injector history?
