Well my tailgate doesnt really lock into place, I just roll up the window into the hardtop and that works up fine to hold it into place. I usually press the button on the dash while my dad or someone else stands behind the truck pushing against the tailgate. Big thing around our city is steeling tailgates, so I put in the key in the slot in the tailgate to lock her up, and the window rolls up and down with the key! Im sure 99% of you guys knew that but I think it is pretty sweet, so now I can lower and raise the tailgate all by myself! Any other "hidden" things I need to know about? lol

What did you think the key slot did?:dunno:

Who steals a tailgate? If I was going to steal something, I don't think a tailgate would even come to mind.

Yeah, are they all into making those cool benches out of tailgates now?

The lock was a lock on the 70's mechanical window cranks, I think. You had to get the handle to pop out, then you could spin it to crank the window up and down. This seems like a hassle until your power sytem breaks with the window down in a blizzard.

Tailgate theft is big buisness these new tailgates are so thin that they don't take the abuse as well. plus alot of them get buggered up by peop[le with 5th wheels and goosenecks who either forget to put them down or back up when hooking and un-hooking

That and it literally takes 20 seconds to steal a tail gate

all I know is I was damn grateful that Avery hooked me up with a clean OEM pickup gate from Cali for my K5..

you can't find that sh*t here in my area.. they all got bashed up and dented, or have rotted out...

When ford changed to the new style tailgate in 08 a bunch of people wanted the new look of it saying "super duty" on the bottom and the step. I seen people paying 800 dollars for one, When at the dealer wanted 650 for the empty shell in bare metal then you had to get the step and handle and get it painted.

wow i never thought a tail gate would be on a thief's todo list.

Wilpetty isn't far from me and YES. These days tailgates are HOT.

I had a friend get one stolen- the theives left a 12 pack of beer behind in the bed... Dummies.

I could have that 12 pack right about now in trade for my tailgated:whistle: Sorry but its spring break and I am....:D

Well thanks guys.. Now I'm all paranoid thinking my tailgate is gonna go missing!
I have a mint pickup tailgate on my K5. Any cool tricks to locking these things???

Bahahahahhaha

This guy I swearz :haha::haha::haha::haha:

And by the way... Why does your gate not latch??? Your gonna snap your glass eventually if all thats holding it closed is the glass....

I was thinking of some type of latch that had to be opened from the inside to let the tailgate down.

Did I have a weird K5 or something? In mine, the glass had to be down, and there was no handle on the outside. So was mine weird? Most of this discussion doesn't make sense.
