Price for gear install

I've got no issues paying for a warranty. Just gives me 3yrs to try and blow it up. Good catch on the true trac. I missed that. Just hit them up.

And yes I would be money ahead on that other axle but then I'd have to screw with selling my current axle and tripping over it until someone would want it and I just went through the whole thing as well and got the parking brake up and running. Not to mention I've got bad luck with used parts and I'd end up breaking that one and being out that money plus more to fix it. It also probably wouldn't bolt right up to mine because nothing on this truck to date has just bolted right up without customizing something so yeah. Not going to risk it even though it is a helluva deal.

So the power lock is less expensive by a couple hundred bucks. And its not a 500 dollar discount. Thats the extreme warranty. If you break it for 3/36 they replace it. It is elective of course.
There is a craftsmanship warranty but they break em in and test drive em a little so it should be solid when you get it. Then you do the next 500 miles easy.

I know these main 4wp guys personally and they are not out to screw anyone. The austin store is the hub for the regional.
Most reputation posts are about online orders and insufficient stock.

item 12 is labor for Dana 60-80 $680, and should be for the 14bff which should cost less imo.
item 11 is Eaton Detroit locker for 14bff then says need 4 pin carrier. Do you have that carrier ?
For my own personal curiosity will that Eaton Detroit locker go in a g80 gov lock carrier?

Technically he used the wrong labor code for the front. Theres a front greasable hub specific labor code. The one there is a rear ff only labor code.
So its a wash there.
The detroit does not fit a g80 carrier.

My BIL had this place do his gears and lockers and they are fine. I've dealt with 4wp in the past and haven't had any issues with returns or parts.

Yes I do. I've had the cover off and inspected it. It's an open diff, not a gov lock and has 4 pins.

As stated above the 14FF is one of the easiest axles out there to re-gear, while a D60 front is one of the more time consuming axles so don't understand the higher labor cost for the 14FF. The 14FF was the first axle I ever rebuilt. Stripped it down, put all new bearings and seals, shimmed the pinion, crush washer setup, setup the ring gear, etc... in an evening after work. Adding a Detroit would have only taken maybe an extra 30 minutes. The D60 front took way longer....simply stripping it down to get the carrier and gears out takes way longer by the time you pull the tires, brakes, hubs, spindles, axles and then the setup of pressing bearings on and off to get the shimming correct. On a 14FF you don't even have to pull the tires off!

Compared to the $3000 labor quote I got yesterday, I'm perfectly fine with the $1,360 quote I got today.

and also breaking 60/14ff parts is rare but happens .

i have my original dana 60 still and its now under its 4th truck . from daily driver to 38" tires and stock tbi 350 to built 400 sbc . . . 8ft and 9ft fisher snow plows and 4 low on snow and ice blowing donuts and still not breaking a thing .

sounds like you have a better plan and good service reports from this shop now .

Answer to my own question, is No Eaton tru trac will not fit in a 14bff g80. The 14bff g80 has 3 cross pins not 4.

they quoted you a true trac . . . not a power lock posi . good units but 35" is the basic max size tire for them . there more a car / street truck unit . not ment for big axles & tires
Eaton did up the warranty to cover them through 38" tires when they changed the design several years ago. For mud/snow no problem but lifting a tire is where the strain comes since you have to drag the brakes. Of course a power lock also wears out quicker as you go up in tire size. https://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServices/Vehicle/Differentials/FAQforDifferentials/index.htm

I do all the dirty work and break down the axles and deliver them loose. Pair of tons runs me about $400 for gear install and setup.

I would agree.

The rear diff is not so much on labor if you had them do it with the axle in, but the front Dana-60 is where all the labor is to tear down the brakes, bearings, and spindle. you could remove the dana 60, and do the tear down yourself then deliver the dana 60 axle and have them do the gear install.
