Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

What do you guys think, the price difference worth it?

The Trxus MTs will be about $180 at my local tire place, and the SSRs will probably be about $245 a piece. Thats a total of $300 more, as I plan on getting 5...I can do the extra money, but is it worth it??

Does the performance gain out weigh the mileage loss? Is the mileage loss even that significant?

I'm guessing your looking at the 33x14.5 SSRs? why not go 12.50??
I am looking at 12.5s, I`m running 14.5s right now, but I like the look of the 12.5s better....

Althought, I may send an email to the seller of those Pirellis, to see if we can maybe work out a deal, then look at my local swat meets for a cheap set of trail tires.....

Wow, guess I did get a steal for my 37s, got a set of them with 3/4 tread for $400. I never really took the time to look at the prices of them because I'm to worried about other things.

Hey Ben,

You can run 14.5's, don't go backwards. You'll regret it. If you can get 33x14.50's for that price go for it. I'd forego 12.50's. JMHO. Fat boys are better in the MUD, especially when you're running lower sizes.

Yea, I figure if I can get these Pirellis, that will give me a really good street tire, and pretty dam cheap. Then I could look around for a used set of trail tires, like boggers:D It`s really expensive to buy them new, but its somewhat worth it for the warranty.....

If I were you I wouldn't go boggers, just because they are directional (so backing out of a hole is alot harder) and they have to be spun extremely fast to clean out and "float". I would try to find some TSLs, IROKs, or just buy some LTBs (my favorite for the size and price).

Hey Ben,

I love ya like a brother, so I'm gonna ask you...You're all over the place concerning the tires. What do you really want from a set? You need to decide this before you can actually go shopping for them. Otherwise, my concern is that you're gonna buy something that you really don't want and then you'll have regret. Plan your work, work your plan. Settle in my mind your hearts' desire and go for it. Rubbers are too expensive these days, an no not those kind, neither!

Well, I want exactly what the SSRs have to offer, and I don`t have a problem with only getting 30k miles out of them, as thats 3 years the way I drive.....I really want something thats gonna perform awesome, and can make up for the lack of size, which brings the SSR into the situation, yet again....It seems that the SSR is the way to go.....

I appreciate your concern manny, always;)

ssr my brother loves them
It`s just the $$$$ of them that makes me turn away...I mean, I have the money for them, but thats alot of $$$ to waste on rubber, when I don`t go offroad as often as some, at least not yet....

You`re right though, Manny..I just can`t make up my mind with tires...I guess I don`t need something super aggressive, I mean, anythings better than the current tires I`m running.....

I may be able to get a set of practically brand new 33x12.5 pirelli scorpion a/t`s for $250-300, thats why I considered running two sets of tires...maybe just get some LTBs, as it looks like 4 33x13.5s can be had for about $600-700 new...just put them on to drive to and from the trail....and all depending on where I go after schools up, NH or TX, I may wheel more than I do currently....

I just want to make sure the extra money I spend on SSRs is worth it...

I will spend roughly $12-1300 on 5 SSRs from my local tire place, with free front end alignment, mount and balance, road hazard, etc...and for Trxus MTs, it looks like about $8-900 for 5 33x12.5s, with the above extras....

I`m lost:o :o

i say stick with one tire.. with proper tire pressures and rotations and keeping them balanced and stuff im sure the ssrs will last you a while..it sounds nice to have two sets of tires but do you really wanna swap tires before you go wheeling? i dont (maybe cause i have been spoiled with air tools at school) but its just something i dont think that needs to be done

also have you checked any vendors? chris at 4wheelcustoms is a great guy to deal with and if you search his name on pavementsucks.com youll see he has a great track record and fast shipping..

Super Swamper Radial SSR 33x12.50-15LT
Our Price: $221.53
looks like a little over 1100 at 4wheel customs..

i bought my soft top and tires from him and both times items came within a week..even though he told me the wait for a soft top was 4 weeks

The problem is that you get no guarenties with online tires. You also still have to get them mounted, balanced, alignment, valve stems, ect. Plus no local tire place will warrenty anything unless you buy through them. And the place he is buying from, the same place i got my MTZs, has lifetime free fix a flat and tire rotation.

So my vote is still MTZ! It is cheaper than SSRs and you can easily run them on the street and on the trail and have all the sipping that is ever needed. They definately have better wet road traction than my A/Ts and way better traction off road.

Come on how can you turn down tires as sexy as these  :

4wheelparts.com has great warranties. A friend of mine had 38x15.5R16 SSRs that all four got slashed and they replaced them no problem. He just sent them back and he got a whole new set of tires.

4 days to get a set of tires ain't slow to me, especially when they are on my door step.

Then you add on the mounting/balancing/etc as Glenn mentioned, and its the same I would pay at my local tire shop...Plus, you get a free front end alignment, which I`m in need of:D
