Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

So, I take it your keeping the 10 bolt rear? Like no 9.5 SF 14 bolt just for a little bit of insurance?
Well, for now, yes. But, a 14bsf is definitely in the near future...There`s one in a somewhat local junkyard, out of an 81-87. Not sure of gears, but, if its 3.73s, it`s a done deal:D , and its 8 lug, so I could go with Black Widow Perfomances kit, then I`ll have discs, and 6 lugs:D

As long as someone tells me exactly what I need to do for the MC if i go with rear discs, that mess of info confuses me:D

EDIT: You read my mind, locked front and rear will make up for me not going with 35s:D . Lockrights, front and rear baby!:D

have you ordered tires yet? because I would go with 35s, that SF 14bolt can hold them no problem.

Nope, and no...33s, thats what I`m going with. Read my post, you know the one you responded to, you`ll see why.;)

what is everyones opinions on the wheels? mask the outer edge, then spay some gloss black to cover stripes? sand blast them, then repaint all black?

Masking and painting the stripes is probably good enough. If you're taking it in the rocks you'll chip the paint off anyways, so then you can just touch it up without worrying about how it looks.

Ben, pm me and I'll walk you thru the best way to ditch the stripes...

Get some really fine sand paper and go over it first so it wont chip off as bad and so it will look smoother. Paint doesn't look that good over clear coat IMHO.

Share Ryoken! I've been wanting to get rid of that damn pink lookin dtripe for years. What's the best way?

just wetsand em off/smooth with some 320, backtape (fold tape in 1/2) off that first peak.. rattle em gloss... angle the can/spray so it's spraying toward the rim edge, not towards the backtaped edge. last coat or 2 change the angle of spray and let it go to the mask edge. pull tape. let dry... you can knock down any paint edge and rub out the blend on the radius with a little 600 and compound on a rag if ya wanna be anal.....

Thats how I'd do it in the bodyshop for a customer... OR you can just blast some gloss over em and be done.... :wink1:

Wonder how it would look if I just sprayed some gloss over it to cover them up? Would the stripes "peak through" still?

Ben,

Not trying to upset the apple cart, but if you're going to convert an 8 lug SF to a 6 lug using BlackwidowPerformance kits, and the FF is equal in price and geared the same, why turn your back on a good FF?

Also, just some business savvy. If you have an agreement or a deal with a person and need to back out, you should tell them first. By what the gent wrote, you caught him off guard and he found out through other means. Now he has lost out on a sale he may have been counting on (yours) and has lost time trying to find another buyer. I'm not diggin' on ya, but I would like for you to realize that others need to be considered when you are in a business transaction. When you made your final decision to go for the SF, the first thing should have been to contact that dude and notify him of your change of heart. Credibility is the name of the game.

If I misinterpreted what he said, then I apologize. Just seems that you caught him by surprise.

Continue with the build. Your rig will be outstanding. With that, when are you painting the truck Hammertone Grey? :haha:

I have those same rims (except 8 lug but they have the stripes) and they are painted on top of the black so I would think that you would see them through if you just painted over the top...they actually stick up quite a bit above the rim (as far as paint height goes).

Don`t worry Manny, I did tell him my situation before hand..

So, what do you guys think?

As soon as I get my tax money back, I`ll be taking a trip to Town Fair Tire. Anyone care to narrow my selection down? Now, I`ll eventually be locked, front and rear, so take that into consideration. BFG MT, TRXUS MT, or TSL Radial?

Do you mean DirtyJims FF, or a FF in general?

If you mean in general, because I want to stay 6 lug, that way all I have to do is the rear.
