Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

Hey guys.

Got a little bored today, so decided to make something I could use to mount my circuit breakers, and relays and stuff. So I came up with this. Its just particle board I had from an old work bench. It`s divided in 2 sections to seperate the high beam relay/wiring from the low beam, and as you can see there`s provisions for the circuit breaker to come through the top. This will all be dropped into a 7.62mm ammo can. It isn`t put together, but I did tried nails and screws, but it wasn`t working out, so it looks as though I may need to use an epoxy of some sort. Let me know what ya think.

eesh, partical board doesn't really like wet conditions... hope your gonna coat the heck out of that with something..

Man Ben, the rust monster is really gettin' to your rig. I'm glad you were able to get that spring hanger off without any frame damage. By the looks of the following posts, everything bolted up fine. Have you inspected your entire frame for any cracks? One thing I would suggest is start wire wheeling/wire brush your frame as best you can and prime it with a rusty metal primer. Take action now or pay dearly later. JMHO, .03 at the current rate of inflation.

Manny

If you think his frame is bad, then you should have seen the spring hanger I had replace last year. There was NOTHING left of it there was no way I could mount another spring eye bolt on there because the old one totally fused to the hanger, and I could drill it out because there wasn't enough material left to drill through... :eek1:

Anyway all trucks 10 years and older in the rust belt look like that or worse. Just something we have to live with up here...

Look closely at the whitish stuff under there, that would be salt slowly eating away at the metal.

Now you know why I ditched the body and put a cab on!!!:eek1:

As requested here's some pics of how I modified the mounting of my hitch so I could put it back on after I installed the ORD flip.

As you can see it was pretty simple. I just cut off the old mounting tab and welded on a piece of angle iron. I then drilled another hole in the frame for the bolt to go through

When are you going to build something? It took you 32 pages and 300 someodd posts to pound the rotors off your hubs, and put bushings in. Who wants to sift through 32 pages of crap to find 10 pics? You wanna see how it's done? Check this out....http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158196&highlight=build+thread It only took 6 pages to get all that done. Now thats inspiration.

A little heavy on the testosterone today Kevin.....chill a little....
Maybe I'll start my build thread, I've had it a year and a half, and all I've managed to do is break the windshield.

well, the partical board idea, is crushed, literally:eek1:

Just got in the door a few minutes ago, and I forgot I left it on the floor in my living room, all mocked up like the picture I posted, and my stepdad stepped on it with his boots, and CRUNCH....Oh well....I have a better idea :D

:haha: :haha: I'm, sorry but that is too funny:haha: :haha:

if it will be protected by an ammo can, I don't see making your housing out of particle board would be a problem, but ryokn is right. When joining particle board, pre drill all your holes then use sheetrock screws. You should use metal tho.

Well, that`s pretty much what I did. I got the idea of using plastic sheeting from MuddinManny, so no need to use metal...we`ll see what I can come up with today....

Then, with some :grind: :grind: the U-Bolts and lift blocks were out.

Placing two "C" clamps on both springs to hold the pack together, I "tried' using vice grips and a breaker bar to break these center pins loose.

But, NOOOOO, they didn`t want to work like that , so a little :hack: :hack: was necessary. (both sides are similar)

PS with zero rate and new center pin:

Since the bushings in the rear of the springs were junk, the had to be replaced:(both sides similar)

Ben

Help me out....

How in the heck did you get the new bushings pushed back in?????

I'm in this exact spot right now trying to get my rear springs bolted back up.

I can't get the bushings in. Any help is really appreciated(sp?). Your rig looks awsome.

Hey Larry. Well, yeah, that was pretty tough. We used a combination of a chisel, BFH, and a ball joint press. PM me if you want, and I`ll try to explain it...

Had a little time to waste today, so I headed over to Home Depot and picked up a sheet of this stuff...the handle is there to make it easy to pull the assembly out, incase there was ever an issue with the wiring underneath...i`m thinking about redoing the top, but haven`t decided

Let me know what you think...

Awesome Dude! Don't change a thing!

Manny

Well. I ended up changing it a little. The top piece where the handle/breakers mount is a little different...I should be done soon, then I`ll through a coat or two of black on the top and down piece, then assemble it, and start wiring it all up...pics to follow;)

It's been 22 years since I was in high school and there's no way I could have done then what you are doing now. By the way, I just did the DIY flip on my burb ( http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200374 )and love it! Keep up the good work and stay resolved to doing it to your specifications. You rock   . And good job to all those who stuck up for you on this board and shame on those who tried to dog you  .

Get around to the Lokar shifter, I'm curious about it. I haven't found much about it, but I'm thinking it will work with a theme I'm putting together for my truck.

That will come shortly after the headlight mod is complete..I still have to pick up a back up switch for it, and I`ll be good to go;)
