Providing things go as planned, I will be taking possession on the Jimmy tonight. Plans for it are mainly to use when hunting. It has 350/SM465/208 with 1/2 ton axles. Uncertain of brand but has a 3-4" lift. It will see some light wheeling time too. Stock bumpers are one of the first things I want to go. A winch bumper & winch is in the future. Would also like to add rer bumper with swingout carrier.
At some point maybe 35" tires. That would be my max as some of the hunting trails are overgrown with trees. I don't want to get higher into them.

Anything else you would add or change?

I am in Montana and like you we like the elk. One thing I find helpful is an atv winch or a warn pulls all or Lewis winch (hooks to a chainsaw powerhead). Portable and handy for the light 1000 lb loads. After a day of hunting gutting and dragging the animal can feel like 2000lbs by the time you try to load it over a tailgate.

So I picked up a 1 ton rolling chassie with D60/14 bolt (4.10's), TH400/ NP205 http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290256

I'm going to put all of that in the Jimmy.

I want fuel injection. I am leaning towards dropping either a 5.3 or 6.0 LS motor in. I can get a decent deal on either along with the flashed computer and reworked harness. Will have to think about it and wait on some $$$. My renter is behind and that is my play money

Turbo 6.2/6.5, SM465 or NV4500, NV241, 1-tons with 35" to 37" radials depending on gearing

Well, this will be somewhat of a play toy too. I've had my time with a SM465 before and the quivering leg from being on the clutch all day isn't much fun. Haven't completely made up my mind on the trans/t-case setup

I have SM465's in 4 of my 5 rigs (I am looking for another to swap into my '85 Blazer), and my leg never gets sore. People always say that though. Maybe my legs are just stronger from carrying my fat ass around all day.

well you have a plethora of choices to go with there...

now you want a partial play toy but a hunting rig...

my personal opinion on what you have now..

put the 1 ton axles in
keep smc465 in but go hydraulic setup - sooo nice on the leg

in addition i would add lockers.. lockers of some sort... i have detroits front and back and would never go with a rig without them..i dont rock crawl so dont care about having a selectable locker up front...

if i had to go back and have no truck and start over..

manual trans with hydro clutch
1 ton axles with lockers
winch front and back

then i would do a lift - that you have
and tires...

Hydro clutch is an option I guess. I have to research what I need for the change.
I still have to check the 14 bolt. It may already have a locker.

I plan to have winch and new bumper for the front. Will be doing a rear bumper with receiver/tire carrier. I already have a winch mounted on a double receiver hitch. I can slide in a hitch mounted portable gambrel for skinning/carving animals and winch them up or pull them up a hill if I can get close enough

that-a-boy!!!!!!!

i tell u what.. i was contemplating going back to auto cuz my leg hurt too.. trying to wheel and go over obstacles and push that monster spring in.. now it is nice and easy..

not sure everything you need.. but i replaced the master and hose from napa...
if i remember correctly i swapped out the pedals... added master, hose and used the bell housing and slave..

i had a donor 1986 or 87 jimmy.... that i got for $100

K, so it appears that the D60 under the 1 ton I bought came with 30 spline outers. As part of my "beefing up" plan, I want to upgrade to 35 spline outers, better u-joints, and I'll need 35 spline locking hubs.
I'm not spending the big $$ on CTM u-joints.Anything out there decent over the stock ones?
What about outer axle shafts?
Locking hubs? This is a daily driver too so no drive flanges

with your tire size 35 spline axles are not needed.

But if you do go 35 spline Warn or re-broached spicer hubs are your only option for lockout hubs

Get good quality spicer u-joints again for your tire size you won't need excotic

We far as tires, if you way bigger the H1 wheel with beadlocks and Goodyear always seem to be plentiful around here.

But hat would require dually axles...
