Project Camo Reaper - Brake lines made - post #144

I just had mine done cause it broke down on me driving to work. Anyways, the tech that figured it out (had an invoice from PO from 3 months ago stating R&R fuel tank and clean) not exactly! Tech said back in the day the tanks were recalled due to the internal baffle would break loose, smash the pick-up/pump and would not work with less then half a tank of fuel. Said they had pallets of tanks at the dealer for warranty R&R. I pulled my plugs and had red on them too, just seeing 63chevyII's post its all making sense!!!

As for the camping hunting angle; Found some good roof racks on Craigslist pretty cheap, just need to figure out a roof mount. I have a portable, self contained propane shower from Bass Pro,,, have not used it yet but looks pretty functional, get you the make when I'm home. I was thinking a telescoping pole off the rack out the back parallel with the ground. Throw a removeable snatch block pulley on the end, run the winch cable through it and there is your game hoist. All gets collapsed down and low profile. Couple lights on the rack giving you night time cleaning(cause you know it will be well after dark!)

How about an inverter mounted inside the side panel, you could have 12volt or 110 watts back there for whatever? Would you do Jerry cans on the bumper or on a swing out tire rack? I like the pivot idea, just need to make a bumper. I was thinking reciever built in, couple of clevis/tow points, some LED reverse lights, spare tire on a swing out mount centered on rear, CB antena mount, hi-lift on there or the rack, two 2 1/2 gallons jerry cans to ease the weight...

I put a police car center console in mine and am thinking of running a shotgun lock system like the cars, off of the rack parallel to the floor behind the front seats. Can even put in a universal rifle lock on it too for a second gun just for good measure. Keeps em locked up, out of sight and readily available at the push of a hidden button/flip of a toggle switch.?

Just took the gas tank out. The tank part was easy. Getting the skid plate off required taking off the rear bumper to get (1) nut off the skid plate mount right behind the license plate. I don't think my 6 yr old could have got his hand in there. My little bear paw wasn't even close.
Now just have to wait for the new tank. Had to order it from a different place as the other one was back-ordered for 7 days then I get an email saying they are refunding my money..grrrr.

Going to wait for another day to pull the sump from the tank to see how bad the tank was rusting. Looked fine from the outside

Classic Industries has em in stock. They are right across the street from my work. I can check in person for you?!

Man,.what luck with online ordering. Glad you got the bills taken care of.
I'm.very interested to see what's going on in there. I've lost all kinds of sleep over that thing.

I'll try to give it a look after work today so you can sleep better :tongue1:
If not today, it will have to wait until Saturday. New tank should be here Thursday or Friday

Did a quick check on the old gas tank. Dumped some of it into an empty 55 gal drum. Looked to be dirt and rocks coming out and not rust. Only dumped about 3 gallons. Guessing there is another 10 gal in there.
Brad, apparently you have some haters :eek1: Might want to invest in some locking gas caps :dunno:

Wtf. I guess someone could have. Maybe some pesky kids

What's weird is how it would be good for a week then mess up, then good for a week then mess up. Heck it did two trips up old stage, one to Denver and it was flawless.

When you get the sender out see how the sides of the tank look, rust or what ever

I have all the parts for the gas tank replacement and the weather is great today..45* And here we go..

New tank is in and it lives again. Apparently Brad had someone sabotage the Jimmy. Found what amounted to a handful of dirt and rocks still in the tank

Damn the luck. I think it could have been an on going issue for a while, but glad you fixed it.
The vapor lock I was fighting was probably fuel starvation the whole time.

How about a pic of the new locking gas cap? Maybe one of those cool race inspired riveted ones. All shiny and aluminum like ya know.:D

I don't need a locking cap, Brad does. He lives in the hood or pissed off one of his students at school...lol

Brad, is this avatar better? It's my old K5

Hunting rig/occasional play toy - Got tires!

Just picked up 4 military 37" H1 tires. They are 90%. Figured $250 wasn't a bad deal for 4. Just need to get some wheels now

I hear if you sipe them or grove them, it makes them a little more flexible and get better traction.:dunno:
I will be trying that with the Swampers I am getting.
