Finally get to start my own:D.

Ok sunday 12/16/07 I bought my first project truck. Its a 82 Chevy Blazer. Its has a 350/th350/? and 10bolts with proble 3.08. It has full lenght headers with flowmasters, big a## front bumper, nerf bars(that I may use on my other truck) and the rest is pretty much stock and worn out. I paid $500 cash for it. It has some other things on it. I still dont know what all it has because I called and bought it an hour after it was listed on craigslist(he actually had other people on the way to look at it when I got there, went a head and bought it and got the title then, so I didnt loose this deal like I lost out on my last one). I still need to go pick it up so pics. and more info will come saturday.

Ok now for the bad.
The truck hasnt moved or started in over 3 years. Its missing the carb, just has bags shoved in the intake. When I looked at it I didnt notice any water or dirt around or in the bags so I should be good, but I'm still pulling the intake off to swap it out with another one I have and I have a carb to put on it. The guy said the engine ran good before he took the carb. off. He was going to rebuild the carb and ended up just geting rid of it.

1.
Now since it hasnt started in over 3 years, I know I need to flush everything out, radiator, change oil, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Should I spray WD40 in the cylinders when I change the plugs out? I should proble drop the gas tank and clean it out too. What is the best way to clean a gas tank out, without having to wash it out with gas. Anything elese I should do?

2.
The transmision is said to be good, but it is missing the dip stick on it so something may of crawled into it. What can I do to clean and flush it out?

You can use that area between the bumper "brush gaurd" and the grill as a livestock hauling area.

Put your goats in it to carry to market:D

Well I kinda got a lot done today. I gutted out the interior. Put the front passenger tire back on the rim, took off the heavy a## front bumper (I think the front end of the truck lifted up 2inchs:haha:), and started to gut the engine capartment of the useless stuff.

Tomorrow I'm going to change all the fluids and hopefully get her started:D

Well I first started with the bumper. I started to unbolt the thing and noticed the idiots welded it to the frame to:(.

I Got a plow now.:haha: But I decided to cut it off.

And now for the cancer:(. Luckly most of it is in the rocker and front flooring so easy fix. Just a little in the rear by the tailgate. I will have to get pictuers of the bottom side to show the poor patch jobs of the PO's. They just bondo over the rust spots and it look like they had duck taped over the hole and then they just slaped bondo over it.:haha:

If you want to be safe with the trans, have it power flushed. They can change all the fluid in the torque converter and trans this way, it will ensure the trans is clean.

I would add a little oil to each cylinder before firing, and it is helpful to manually turn the engine over a couple of times by hand. You will feel any rust issues immediately, rather than finding out after trashing a cylinder. I would also use a squirt bottle to apply a light coat of oil to the valve train.

Overall looks like a pretty good score for the $$. I paid more for mine, and have only slightly less rust (but I haven't pulled the carpet yet).

On the tranny I was told by a local shop that I could start it and let it run for 5 second then kill it, let set, then drain the pan, and repeat. They said this would get 98% of the ATF out with out a flush. I'm not to worried about it though. I have a guy work that can proble give me a th400 for $50.

Yeah I sprayed some WD-40 in the cylinders last night, still need to pull the valve covers and make sure nothing crawled in there and lube it up.
And thanks for the help.
